Do you want the landscaping in the front and back of your home to look as if you have put an immense amount of effort into it, without actually having to do much work? This is completely understandable, as being able to have an awesome landscape without having to put so much time and effort into it is just about every homeowner’s dream. A lot of amateur landscapers believe that nothing can be done to speed up the process of having a pristine lawn and lush, vibrant landscaping, and they begrudgingly go through the motions just so they can have that sweet, final result. If, however, you just want the result without all the hard work, then here are a couple of landscaping and gardening tips that anybody can utilize to increase the quality of their landscape, while reducing the amount of work that must be put into it.

Watering your landscape is one of the most time consuming things you can do. This is because different parts of the lawn and garden need to be watered at separate times, so you have to come out at multiple intervals in order to do this. You have to move the sprinklers and garden hoses around, take the time to give certain areas more water than others, and keep track of what’s been watered when, which can be a huge pain. To take this task off your hands, you should do what the movie Terminator always advised you against, and that is leave it to the machines. There are many automatic watering devices you can take advantage of that will release water at exactly the right time and in the correct amounts, both increasing efficiency and enabling you to stay completely hands-off of this otherwise time-consuming landscaping task.

The other critical component that plants need is food (air and sunlight you do not need to worry about – the latter your lawn and plants will get as long as they are outside in a decent location, and the former is everywhere). Food for the lawn, plants, trees, flowers and vegetables in your front yard, backyard and garden comes in the form of fertilizer, and you can administer it to your plants in one of two ways. Like watering, you can give your landscaping fertilizer at specific times, or you can just use a time-release fertilizer that slowly releases nutrients when needed. The second option is much easier because you add the fertilizer once and it continues to supply nutrients to your plants over a specified period of time, making your job easier to do.

These are two of the easiest ways to save time on your landscaping tasks, while still keeping the lawn and garden looking healthy and growing strong. Other ways to save some time on landscaping tasks generally involve using certain types of lawn tools and landscape supplies to make lawn maintenance and clean up quicker and easier to do, such as using using leaf sweepers or leaf vacuums for fall cleanup, using lawn detatching rakes to clean up the thatch in your grass quickly and easily so the grass grows stronger, using ride-on lawnmowers to cut the grass rather than push models, and just generally having an arsenal of garden tools at your disposal (as well as a garden tool rack or other garden tool organizer so you always know where they are when you need them!), so that you have what you need to get small jobs done easily. By doing this, your small landscaping tasks won’t turn into big jobs that require a lot more time and effort to tackle.

Many people don’t consider all of the options available for tropical pool landscaping. There are a variety of plants that can survive outdoors with proper care, as well as outdoor decor and accessories with a tropical theme, that can find their place in most regions of the United States. These features can fit right in to pool landscaping design just about anywhere. When the word “tropical” comes to mind, you probably think of lush growth, waterfalls, colorful flowers and exotic animals. Well, with the exception of the animals, all of these assets can be incorporated into your pool landscape with relative ease, pretty much wherever you live. Large ponds, for example, can be accented with a water feature, such as a fountain, and several exotic water plants such as lilies, or you can add a palm tree or other tropical foliage alongside a meandering pathway.

Here are a few tropical pool landscaping ideas to consider:

Tropical Palms

The palm tree is one of the most enduring signs of tropical regions around today. A tropical vacation usually calls to mind images of sunbathing underneath an array of palm trees. Luckily, tropical palm trees are rather hardy, and can usually survive in temperatures as low as 25 degrees Fahrenheit, though this will vary depending on the species. Palm trees also grow to rather large sizes, so make sure you have plenty of room for the plant’s maximum size prior to planting.

One of the more popular pool landscape ideas is to spread tropical palm trees along the edge of the pool, since they shed few leaves and can shade the surrounding tile or concrete and prevent it from becoming too hot. They also have extremely easy care instructions, though once again this varies from plant to plant, so be sure to research each species before you make any purchases to ensure you pick the ideal plant for your situation.

Plants and Pathways

Creating interesting pathways is another great way to enjoy a tropical pool landscape design. A walk through a tropical garden can be a great way to dry off between swims while enjoying the beauty provided by exotic plants on either side. Stone or rock pathways are one way of landscaping with rocks that can really add interest to the surrounding garden decor. Their natural and carefree look are attractive and fit in well with a tropical landscape design. Bamboo can help establish a walkway and give it a more tropical feel, if you grow it on opposite sides of a path. You can also add colorful flowers and exotic plants along the way, to increase the beauty and add to the tropical nature of your landscaping. In fact, there are many different types of landscape supplies that can really lend a tropical feel to your design.

Plant Combinations

Some tropical plants look better together than others, and finding the right plant combinations can be just what you need to really set off the look of your pool landscape. For example, a needle palm tree has thin leaf sections, and would be well accented by a broad leaved plant, such as a bird-of-paradise, which also has attractive blooms. Philodendron, ferns and hosta are all good low-growing plants ideal at filling gaps. Ground covers are also effective at adding tropical appeal and preventing open spaces.

Outdoor Accessories

Even if you live in a climate that is not conducive to growing tropical plants or trees, you can still add a tropical feel to your pool landscape design with a few well placed accessories. Nothing says “tropical” like a tiki hut where you can enjoy a cool drink on a hot day. Add a couple of tropical themed garden statues throughout your landscaping, or create an interesting waterfall or pond. A solar fountain is an easy and less expensive way to add a water feature and can make you feel like you are on vacation with its soothing sounds.

There are numerous ways to give your pool landscaping design a more tropical feel. Whether you live in a climate conducive to planting a palm tree or two, or you simply accessorize with interesting landscaping rocks, a solar fountain, a garden statue or two with a tropical motif, or even a festive tiki hut set alongside the pool to enjoy a refreshing drink after a swim, you can create a tropical paradise right in your own backyard.

We all know that a beautiful front lawn or backyard landscape is incomplete without at least one tree, preferably more, that not only provides an aesthetic quality, but also some much needed shade. New homeowners often underestimate what it takes to maintain large to medium-sized trees, letting them take hold of the yard and ultimately causing problems down the road. While an untrimmed tree can look unsightly, which should be reason enough to perform periodic tree trimming, there are also greater issues to consider if you’re a homeowner that has ignored the notion of proper tree maintenance.

Trees have been known to cause significant amounts of damage when thrashed around by storms and strong winds. Those that have grown much too large are the most susceptible to causing damage, since their branches can easily snap, landing on a car, or worse, injuring a person. If you live in an area that is prone to erratic weather, especially the type that is known to cause an uptick in wind activities, you should get in touch with a qualified arborist immediately and adhere to a routine tree trimming schedule, so that you don’t risk the damage that can result from overgrown or unmaintained trees.

Arborists can quickly identify problem areas and make quick work of them using specialized tools like cranes and wood chippers. Even if your area was recently hit by a storm, yet you notice little to no damage to the trees on your property, you are still highly encouraged to consult with an arborist. The structural integrity of some of the branches may have been severely compromised during the storm, leaving them susceptible to breaking off at any given moment or making it more likely that when the next storm arrives there will be trouble. These limbs can fall on power lines and other nearby objects – leaving you potentially liable, and possibly causing significant damage and injury.

Tree trimming services can cost from a few hundred dollars up to a thousand dollars or more, depending on how elaborate of a job you need performed. If a tree is identified as unsafe and needs to be completely cut down, you’ll then have to cover the complete tree removal cost, which tends to be much steeper than simply cutting off a few branches, especially when the contractor is expected to remove the roots and the stump. But, if you periodically have tree trimming performed, the job usually is much smaller, and therefore the tree trimming costs are as well.

Whatever you decide needs to be done, be sure to carefully shop around for a tree removal contractor or arborist before going forth with the work. Get quotes from as many providers as possible, and settle for the provider that’s between both pricing extremes (that’s usually your best bet).

Although some homeowners may feel confident enough to tackle tree trimming and tree removal on their own, experts agree that there is some substantial danger involved in cutting down large tree limbs or whole trees, and it is worth the expense of hiring a professional in order to remain safe. For one, tree limbs can be quite unpredictable when sawed away and allowed to fall. Although it may appear that a limb will fall towards an empty section of your yard, it may very well fall into your neighbor’s pool or on your fence. Some limbs are also positioned at an especially awkward angle and height, which means you might risk falling off a ladder in trying to cut them down.

By keeping your trees regularly trimmed, and therefore healthy and not overgrown, you decrease the chance that you will have to deal with expensive tree removal costs during the next storm because one of your trees comes down. When you see that a tree has been compromised in any way, whether just one large limb or several, it is important to promptly contact an arborist, tree trimming specialist or tree removal contractor and take care of the tree before it turns into a potentially large and dangerous problem.

Merriam Webster’s definition of noise is sound; especially one that lacks agreeable musical quality or is noticeably unpleasant.

Do you want to create a quiet, peaceful outdoor space where you can go and decompress and relax in your favorite garden rocking chair with a good book? Do you live in an area where noise is a constant part of life? Even if you live outside of a city in suburbia or in a rural area, you may have noise invading your life from sources beyond your control, such as traffic from nearby roads, noisy neighbors, or mechanical noises like rattling air conditioners or buzzing lawn mowers. Unfortunately, unpleasant noise can come from all directions. Wouldn’t it be great to have a place where you can enjoy some solitude? Read on to discover ways to reduce the racket around you.

You may need to attack this from several different fronts and with several different types of landscape supplies. A plant barrier alone may not be enough to noticeably reduce the cacophony from a nearby road. This may require a denser barrier and even a competing pleasant sound from a water feature. Here are a few common examples of noise reducing barriers.

Plants

If you choose to go with this method, you will need to create layers of dense shrubbery or hedge that is tall, evergreen and fast growing. This method will not reduce noise by much, but it’s generally more aesthetically pleasing than constructing a concrete barrier or fence. Hedges do make a good visual barrier.

Fast growing hedges, such as Arborvitae (Thuja,) Holly trees, Privet Hedge or Leyland Cypress, will work well for this. Check with your local nursery for hardiness in your area.

Plant several rows thick and stagger so you get a more solid blockade

Depending on your taste, hedges may be trimmed to look more sleek and contemporary or left to grow naturally for a more rustic, natural look.

Fences

This type of noise barrier may be more effective at reducing the clatter around you, but has it’s own drawbacks. You may live in an area that has restrictions on building fences, as many neighborhoods do these days. The cost is another consideration. Depending on the density, length and height of your fence, it is most likely going to cost more than planting a hedge. Keep in mind that the barrier here needs to be above the noise. Here are a few types of privacy fences to consider:

Masonry wall – stone, brick or stucco covered concrete make the best sound barriers due to their density.

Wood fencing – needs to be solid with no gaps between or below the boards, since sound will find the path of least resistance.

Acoustifence – is a heavy mineral filled visco elastic acoustical material. Used primarily in commercial applications, it is also available for residential use. Not as aesthetically pleasing as other barriers, but according to information on their website, it is extremely effective.

Vinyl fencing – has come a long way and is made to simulate a wood appearance. There are obvious benefits in using this type of material, such as low maintenance, durability and installation ease.

Natural Noise Reduction

Berms – may be one of the most effective, economical methods of reducing the clatter from your life. Building a berm in combination with stone or plants can make a pleasing, effective sound barrier.

Water Features – while not technically a barrier, these can be great at counteracting unpleasant sounds with pleasant sounds, like a waterfall, a man made stream that trickles into a pond or a bubbling boulder.

Noise Reduction Technology

Noise cancellation products that work in the same way as noise canceling headphones. A company by the name of Comfozone, Inc. makes several products aimed at noise reduction including a “nature sound generator” with outdoor speakers, acoustic panels and noise traps. Any one of these products may be exactly what you need to create a peaceful environment in your backyard.

The quest for quiet and solitude is something most of us search for at least some time in our lives. The place we normally look for this is in our own homes, for this is where we find sanctuary at the end of each day. Don’t we all deserve a little serenity? Check with your local landscape company for your particular situation, or do it yourself but check out some of the options above for reducing the noise in your life.

A beautiful home requires lighting on the outside as well as on the inside. To properly light your grounds, you need to have some landscape lighting, which comes in many forms and styles.

Solar powered landscape lighting can be a very economical way to light the outside of your home. This type of lighting consists of sensors that are charged by sunlight during the day and will then turn on at night without the use of electricity. The lights will automatically detect the proper time to come on in the evening and will shut off when daylight approaches. And solar landscape lights can be very attractive along with being an inexpensive way to light your grounds. You will also be doing your part to help the planet. And, they won’t affect your electrical bill!

You can also opt for low voltage landscape lighting, which is easy to install because it does not require a licensed professional to install regular electrical wiring. Most of these types of lights come in landscape lighting kits with everything you need to get your lights installed and working properly. Of course, you can also choose to have regular electrical-powered landscape lighting installed throughout various areas of your landscaping and around the exterior of your home, if you prefer.

Your outdoor lighting can consist of lights for your walkway, post lamps at the end of the walkway, and lights that circle the perimeter of your home. You may want to have spotlights or flood lights in certain areas, such as over the garage and at the corners of the house. And a pendant light can hang on your porch to illuminate the area by your front door. Lights situated throughout your landscaping, either in flower beds or pointing up at interesting trees or bushes, are another way to add interest to your landscaping and can make a big impact on the outside look of your home.

Landscape lights are an attractive addition to your outer surroundings. They will also help to keep your home safer. A well-lit home presents an obstacle to anyone who might be lurking around, thinking of trespassing on your property and robbing you. For proper protection, you should have your house sufficiently lit from all angles, front, back and sides, allowing for no dark areas where someone can hide.

With the proper outdoor landscape lighting, you will have an attractive and appealing outer environment. Plus, you will have the peace of mind that comes from knowing your well-lit surroundings will help to keep your home safer. So, get started today by designing your outside lighting plan and choosing the types and styles of lights that you would like to install, and you should be able to have all of your lighting in place for summer!

I’ve finally decided to do something with my landscaping. I have a decent lawn, that’s green for about two months out of the year, but I wanted more. You know those yards you see on home improvement shows with decks, gardens, super green lawns, and lights highlighting everything at night?… That’s what I wanted.

The only problem is that I can’t help but to think of the cost of maintaining everything. I mean, think about the fertilizer, special seeds, and constant attention to make sure everything grows right. Plus, the construction and maintenance costs for things like pools and decks can really add up quickly and the numbers can be staggering. So, I started looking for different ways to save money on my dream landscape.

The first thing that came to mind was lighting. Certainly with all the types of garden lighting and landscape lighting available, I was sure to find a way that I could get something I liked while still saving some money. So, I decided that instead of tapping into my homes electricity and increasing my electric bill, I could go green and use solar powered garden lighting. Supposedly, these lights are both stylish, efficient, and they get the job done.

Another great benefit is that they’re powered by the sun. I mean, you can’t get more environmentally friendly than that! Plus, it costs basically nothing for you to have to install them. The solar powered unit is housed inside of the light so that you can place them anywhere. You just have to stake them into the area you want to light at night, and you’re good to go – no need to hire an expensive electrician. Oops, almost forgot, you just have to make sure the lighting unit is exposed to direct sunlight during the day so that the battery charges, but that’s about it.

Now, when you think of most solar powered tools and appliances, you may think of terrible design. That may have been the case in the past, but that’s not the case with the solar landscape lighting on the market today. To be honest, you wouldn’t even notice the difference between most of the solar models and the electricity powered models.

And, did I tell you how they don’t cost a lot of money? With the advancement of technology, the batteries specifically, the costs of solar landscape lights has decreased dramatically. They cost close to the same amount as electricity-based landscape lights. After all, I went into the decision to use solar powered lighting because I was looking for ways to save money on my landscape paradise, right?

So there you have it – solar powered lighting is a real winner! You get to save money on the lights themselves, the installation costs, the cost of operating them, and you have to sacrifice little when it comes to performance. And you know what that means? It means that using solar powered landscape lights frees up some money to focus on some of the other exciting elements of my backyard and garden oasis and allows me to spend money on the landscape supplies I truly want!

A pond is a beautiful addition to your garden. Whether you want a koi pond or an aquatic garden with lilies, there is a pond for every mood. Many instructional sites online will help you build a pond from scratch and there are also many prefabricated ponds for sale at gardening stores. One of the most important factors needed for a pond is often overlooked, however. A pond needs a good pump and good filtration in order to remain beautiful and healthy all year long.

When you start to shop around for garden pond pumps, you need to know how many gallons your pond is. If you have no idea, there is a simple formula you can use. While measuring in feet, multiply the length times the width times the depth and multiply this total by 7.48. For example, a pond that is 10 feet long, 5 feet wide and 2 feet deep would be 10 x 5 x 2 x 7.48 = 748 gallons. It is important to know how many gallons your pond is because the pond pumps are rated by how many gallons per hour (or GPH) they pump. You want to pump at least half your pond total once an hour though ideally, you want it closer to the entire volume. A 1000 gallon pond should have a pump rated at 1000 GPH. Small ponds (1000 gallons or less) work well with submersible pumps, but if you have a large pond, you may want to look into external pumps.

Another important factor to consider are the different types of garden pond filters that are available. Mechanical filtration removes debris like leaves by passing water through a skimmer or large pore open cell foam. Chemical filtration uses materials like carbon to trap particles and remove chemical contaminants. Biological filtration is the most important. It uses the nitrogen cycle to break down and detoxify organic waste.

If you are not familiar with the nitrogen cycle, it would be wise to study it. Basically, it creates colonies of beneficial bacteria in your pond to keep the water healthy. There are many models available that combine these features and different filtration types. For example, some pond filters have two chambers. One chamber has a sponge which traps debris (mechanical) and beneficial bacteria (biological) grow here. The empty chamber is used for chemical filtration when needed. Pond filters are either submersible or external. Submersibles work better on smaller ponds while external filters are required for large ponds.

When choosing a pump or filter remember, these operate 365 days a year. Cheap models may end up costing more if they fail. Look for warranties that last longer than one year. If you are shopping for external options, ask how loud they are. Remember, your pond is supposed to invite serenity and reflection, not maintenance issues.

Having a garden pond in your own backyard is a great luxury, but in order to really be able to enjoy it, you must make sure that the pond operates properly and stays clean. By knowing some of the basics of garden pond filters and garden pond pumps, you are well on your way to making sure you have just what you need to keep your garden pond functioning at optimal levels.

Just think of how nice it will be to be sitting out on your patio or gazing out the window of your quaint workspace from a garden building tucked away in the corner of your yard, taking in the tranquil atmosphere in and around your garden pond, complete with all the sights and sounds that come with it. If you have a properly functioning and clean pond, you can enjoy that tranquility for a long time to come.

If you are looking for the perfect groundcover for a garden or other landscaped area, mondo grass may be just the answer. Mondo grass is an easy-to-maintain turf that remains green all-year long and never needs to be mowed. The secret behind this grass is that it is not really a grass at all, but rather a member of the lily family, with long, slender, grass-like leaves. Plants come in individual clumps and when planted, they fill out to create the appearance of a lush, hardy groundcover.

Mondo grass is often used in flower beds, between stepping stones in a garden or backyard, or to mark borders. These plants establish themselves quickly and do well in both full sun and shade. Mondo are often used to fill in areas of the yard where other plants just will not grow. They do not require significant amounts of water, making them an attractive option in areas prone to drought and high temperatures. Weed control is simple, as mondo grass can easily withstand most over-the-counter weed killer products. Weeds can also be removed quickly by hand for the gardener who prefers a more organic approach.

The height of traditional mondo typically reaches between six and ten inches. Those looking for a more maintained look may consider dwarf mondo grass instead. Dwarf mondo is a miniature version of mondo grass that rises only two or three inches above the soil. This grass works well between stones, along pathways, or as a backdrop in a flower garden. Like it’s larger cousin, dwarf mondo is drought-resistant and can succeed in sun and shade.

Ornamental grasses such as mondo grass are a great addition to any garden and provide a finished look that many amateur gardeners struggle to achieve. This plant, often known as monkey grass, is extremely versatile and can be grown in a wide variety of soil conditions. It is an excellent option when looking to take your gardening project to the next level.

As spring approaches, it is time to pull out the gardening tools, hoses and sprinklers. The race is on to see who will end up with the ultimate landscape by summer. People want to see color as they walk through their neighborhoods after hibernating through a cold winter and rich, lush lawns. Foliage from bulbs that were planted during the previous late summer season start to peep through. There is nothing like a parade of colorful tulips, anemones, peonies, and lilies to watch as you make your way through the community.

Spring is also a good time to purchase hanging baskets and annuals to plant as well. Impatiens, begonias, and pansies are great annuals that will endure an early spring cold snap and require little sun. In a few weeks, temperatures will start to climb, and the task of watering regularly will become necessary. Landscaping experts become busy during this season with questions like when to water your lawn, and how often fertilizer is needed.

If you know the importance of water to your lawn, you know how important it is to water early in the morning. Early morning watering allows enough water to be absorbed into the ground before it evaporates from the midday sun. A healthy lawn needs about one inch of water with each watering. Midday watering requires too much water and time because of the evaporation that occurs during the warmest part of the day, which becomes very wasteful. Many states mandate odd and even day watering, so be aware of the day it is permissible for you to water and heed any other restrictions that may also be placed on your community during drought conditions.

Sun, water and fertilizer is all that is really needed to help your landscape thrive. The importance of water to the earth and to your individual garden is a known fact. Many flowers will flourish if the soil is slightly damp most of the time, although there are some that prefer it drier because they are more drought-resistant species. Meanwhile, some plants and flowers love a lot of sun and some prefer more shady conditions. It’s important to follow the proper directions for watering and shade/sun exposure for the particular types of plants and flowers that are in your garden. Directions will often be written on the plants seed package or pot so you’ll know what to do, otherwise your garden store assistant should be able to tell you about the best way to care for your selections.

The ultimate neighborhood lawn will have color coordination, accents and beauty. It will also be lush, vibrant and well maintained. So create a landscaping plan, follow the plan to maintain and care for your landscaping, and watch as your neighbors go as green as your lawn with envy as they walk by!

By far, the best way to add landscape lighting to your yard is by utilizing and purchasing landscape lighting kits. Why is this? The reason is really easy to understand, as you usually can get a better deal if you buy things in bulk as opposed to buying things separately. A landscape lighting kit comes with everything you could ever need to start making that yard or garden look beautiful by lighting it up!

What exactly does a landscape light kit include? Kits usually include light fixtures, wiring, a transformer, solar lights (or low voltage lights), replacement bulbs, and instructions on how to install the whole thing. The great thing about the kit is that you will have enough wire and enough fixtures to place in multiple locations, and a nice transformer that has a light sensor and manual timers and can operate all of the lights in the kit. If you were to go out and buy all of these components separately, you would probably pay anywhere from $100 to $200 dollars more than you would need to.

Landscape lighting kits can usually be purchased for about $50-$100 dollars, although they do go up in price from there. You can usually pick up a nice kit from your local hardware store like Lowes or Home Depot, or you can also buy landscape lighting kits online from retailers that sell landscape supplies or outside lighting. These kits are safe to install yourself, as the transformer can plug into any wall jack. The transformer allows extremely low level current to flow to the lights which is safe to handle as it will not shock you or cause you any discomfort.

Kits are usually sold in categories of yard or garden size. If you have a large garden, you will buy a larger kit whereas a person with a smaller yard or garden would buy the smaller kit size. The reason for this is that the size of your yard or garden will directly affect the amount of lights you will actually set up in outdoor space.

Landscape lighting kits provide an easy way to beautify your yard or garden with easy to install lighting at a reasonable price. We hope that we have been able to excite you to start realizing your landscape lighting dreams by purchasing a kit to make it all happen!

One of the more burdensome parts of home gardening is dealing with uninvited intruders to your garden. Whether it is an influx of birds eating all of your berries, insects infesting your vegetables, or other pests eating your greens, these intrusions can leave you discouraged and frustrated. A simple method to take care of many of these problems is to use garden netting for protection.

Garden netting is exactly as it sounds, netting for your garden areas. This is specially designed material created to help you protect and grow your garden, giving you the best chance of a successful and fruitful harvest.

There are actually a surprising number of different types of netting, each specializing in a particular need for the home gardener. Shade netting is frequently used to protect plants in warmer climates, and bird netting is designed to keep birds out of your berries. The netting that most people are interested in is garden netting for pests.

The nature of your pests will determine the application of the netting. For ground pests such as insects or small animals, a simple application over the garden plants may oftentimes be sufficient. The netting is designed to rest gently on the plants, and allows the right balance of protection and sunlight throughput.

If you are dealing with a larger problem such as deer, you may want to consider a larger option to keep them at bay. A fence made from garden netting can be a cost effective method to building a full barrier. Simply stake poles or piping in the ground to provide a latch for the netting and you can place a barrier between nature and your garden.

Whatever your problem in the garden, there is likely a solution. Although no one wants to deal with pests in the garden, finding ways to minimize their impact need not be so complicated. Assess your needs and find the solution that works best for you.

Travertine is a beautiful and natural stone that is often used indoors on floors, backsplashes and even walls in the bathroom and kitchen. Travertine tiles can also be used outdoors on patios, outdoor kitchens, stone fireplaces, walkways, inground pool surrounds and as exterior home siding, and they provide a natural feel to any space. Using travertine tiles outdoors can add interest to your exterior décor, but a few points need to be kept in mind before making the decision to use travertine over other types of natural stone.

Travertine tile is a porous natural stone in the limestone family that comes in a number of different finishes and colors. Travertine tile finishes include tumbled, honed, polished and brushed. Colors vary from shades of ivory and beige to golds, reds, and walnut colors. For outdoor purposes, polished travertine is not often used due to its smooth and shiny finish. Tumbled travertine tile, brushed travertine tile, and honed travertine tile are the finishes of choice for outdoor use. The main difference is that honed travertine has a flat, smooth finish while the other two types have a textured finish, so honed travertine is not often used on floor surfaces outdoors due to its potential to be slippery when wet.

One consideration in choosing travertine tiles for your outdoor space is that the tiles are porous and therefore will naturally retain water that then becomes trapped within the tile. This makes them a less popular choice in areas that have regular freeze and thaw cycles, since any water that is trapped within the tile can cause the tile to crack when the external temperature causes the trapped water to freeze. This problem is more likely to arise with travertine floor tiles (used on patios and walkways) than on travertine wall tiles (used on exterior walls), since horizontally installed tiles are more likely to trap water.

One solution to the problem of moisture and water when installing travertine tile outdoors is to seal the tile. Sealing travertine tile not only helps to keep moisture out but also makes cleaning the tiles easier. This is especially true of tumbled travertine, which is more prone to collect dirt due to its textured finish. If sealed, cleaning travertine tile outdoors requires a periodic hosing down of the tile, along with a brushing to loosen up some of the debris.

Another consideration to keep in mind is that travertine is softer than some other natural stone products. While this is not as much of an issue when installing travertine as siding on a home or installing a travertine tile backsplash in your outdoor kitchen, it may be an issue if you are installing the tile as the flooring on your patio, where outdoor patio furniture will be moved around often and may scratch or chip the tiles. This is not to say that travertine is a soft stone. It is a durable stone that has been used on the exteriors of buildings dating back to Roman times – it just may be more likely to scratch or chip than other natural stones.

Choosing the finish for your travertine tiles will depend on the location in which they are being used and the look you are interested in achieving. Honed travertine tiles have a smooth texture with a matte finish, so they can become slippery when wet and are not the best choice for a patio floor. They are a great choice, however, for kitchen countertops and backsplashes, outdoor shower walls, or exterior siding. Brushed or tumbled travertine tiles are a better solution for patios and walkways due to their rougher and more natural texture and better slip resistance.

Laying travertine tiles requires a similar installation method to most other natural stone choices, with the one exception that if it is laid in a location subject to freezing temperatures it should not be set with mortar. When any moisture inside of the stone freezes, it expands and can pop the mortar joints. It is best to install travertine tiles over a solid uniform surface outside, such as a concrete patio slab. Laying travertine tiles can be performed by do-it-yourselfers that have the knowledge of how to properly lay any type of natural stone product, or of course can be handled by professional installers.

Despite the fact that there are some aspects of using travertine tiles that should be kept in mind in relation to moisture retention and the strength of the tile, travertine tile installation is very popular on the exterior of many homes due to its sheer beauty. It is a more appropriate material choice in climates that are not subject to freezing, but if care is taken to properly seal the tile, it can be used in colder climates as well.

You can buy travertine tile from landscaping supply companies, hardscaping suppliers, natural stone suppliers, quarries, garden centers, and home improvement stores. You can even buy travertine tiles online, although it is usually best to use the internet to locate local suppliers in the area and compare prices and selection available (such as color, finishes and sizes), since the weight of travertine tiles doesn’t make them easy to ship inexpensively (unless you are purchasing a small quantity). Travertine mosaic tiles (for backsplashes), and travertine floor tile or wall tile can be purchased online and shipped, but if you are looking to complete an entire patio or large walkway or are planning to side the whole front of your home, buying travertine tiles online is probably not the best option and you should look for places that sell travertine tiles in bulk or discount travertine tile if you order over a certain quantity.

Travertine tiles have been used for thousands of years on the exteriors of buildings and homes and create a beautiful and natural finish, with warm, rich colors and varying textures. As long as a few considerations are kept in mind before deciding where to use travertine tiles in your outdoor space, you can enjoy the beauty and durability of this natural stone for years to come.

If you are in need of tree removal, due to a tree that has died, is no longer in good health, or that you simply no longer want in your yard because it is too large, is too close to your home, or is blocking a view, you may be wondering what your options are for removing the tree or set of trees that need to go. The cost of tree removal inhibits some people from taking down and getting rid of trees that should be removed, and that can cause your yard to look unsightly, or can even be a danger to your family and neighbors.

If tree removal costs make you shiver, here are a few options to consider for removing trees that may be a bit more palatable:

Determine if anyone else is responsible for removing the tree. If a tree needs to be removed or cut back because it is near power lines, the local power company may provide a free tree removal service so that the tree does not cause damage to the power lines. If a tree that is near the street needs to be removed, check with your local municipality to see if they provide free tree removals for those trees that may interfere with sidewalks, streets, sewers or other public property. Also, if the tree is along your property line, be sure to check that the tree is actually your responsibility to remove and not your neighbor’s.

Consider removing your own tree. If the tree that needs to be removed is not too large, you may want to consider removing it yourself. This is an option that should be well thought out and should only be attempted if you feel confident in the use of tree removal equipment, such as a chain saw and a large ladder, have help to make sure you are secure during the tree removal process, and can ensure that removing the tree does not interfere with any dangerous wires or power lines. In most cases, a large tree cannot be removed by a homeowner on their own, and should not be attempted, but if you have a small tree that is not in contact with anything else and you feel confident in the use of the equipment, have a sturdy ladder, and are physically capable of handling such a large task, then you may want to consider this option with caution.

Hire someone just for removing tree stumps. Even if you are able to cut down the branches and the trunk of the tree on your own, you may still need help in removing tree stumps. Some tree removal companies will offer a tree stump removal service, so that you can have only the stump removed for you, or you can rent a stump grinder to grind down the stump to a point to where it is level with the ground. This is much less expensive than the cost of a full tree and stump removal. Unless a tree has died and has come partially out of the ground on its own, it is very difficult to remove a tree stump on your own. Most DIY tree removers will grind the stump down using rented equipment or will cut the tree trunk as close to the ground as possible and then follow steps to help it decompose as quickly as possible. There are ways to accomplish this by making cross cuts in the tree stump, covering it with water or with a tree stump removal chemical and covering it up so that it more quickly decomposes. In other cases, plantings can be made around the existing tree stump so that you will never even know it’s still there.

Share the tree removal cost with a neighbor. If removing the tree in question would benefit both yourself as well as your neighbor, even if it is located on your property, consider asking them to share in the cost of removing the tree. In some cases, neighbors are happy not to have a large tree blocking the sun in the backyard or dropping leaves and berries on their car in the driveway and will be glad to help defray part of the tree removal cost because they reap benefits from removing the tree.

Advertise that you need a tree removed in exchange for free firewood. If you put an ad in your local pennysaver or even on craigslist stating that you are in need of tree removal services in exchange for free firewood, you may just find someone that has the right equipment and experience in removing trees that is willing to remove your tree because they want to keep the firewood. Purchasing firewood is rather expensive these days, averaging in the neighborhood of $200 for a cord of wood delivered, so it may be worth it for someone to offer their tree removal services in exchange for the wood to either keep for themselves or sell. You may still need to rent a tree stump remover when they’re done, but it is still worth it since the cost will be minimal compared to what you would otherwise have paid for tree removal.

If hiring a tree removal company, shop around first. If the only sensible option for removing the tree in your yard is to hire a professional tree removal company, then it is best to first shop around to compare tree removal prices. Different companies will charge varying prices for the same tree and may also offer different services. Some may cut the tree up for you into fireplace size logs and leave it for your use while others may haul away the whole tree. Some companies remove tree limbs and the trunk but leave the stump in the ground, while others will pull it out or grind the stump down. Depending on what you want done, how many trees you have, what types of trees you have, the size of the trees, and the location of the trees to be removed, you can receive very different prices from tree removal companies that have different equipment and use different techniques. You can also check with local landscaping companies to see if they offer tree removal services. Be sure to get all estimates, including what services they include, in writing.

There are many options to consider if you are in need of tree removal services. The best tree removal option will depend in part on how large the tree is, what type of tree you need removed, and the location of the tree. Although professional tree removal companies will typically charge quite a bit of money to remove trees, there are a few options to consider that can diminish or eliminate the cost, resulting in free or cheap tree removal. If you decide that the best option is to remove a tree on your own, extreme caution should be taken and all safety measures, such as wearing protective eye gear, head gear, and gloves, as well as ladder and equipment safety measures should be the first priority. If you are unsure of your ability to safely remove a tree or part of a tree by yourself, then the job is best left to a professional.

There are many uses for concrete blocks. Concrete block construction can include anything from retaining walls and patios to outdoor kitchens, fireplaces, swimming pools, buildings and homes, and more. Depending on what type of project you are looking to complete, there are different types of concrete blocks available for use.

Concrete blocks can be used for almost any structural purpose. Depending on the intended use, there are different types of concrete blocks available, although basic concrete block construction is typically handled in a similar fashion. Concrete blocks are strong, durable, easy to install, and an economic option for many types of building projects.

Concrete blocks are made from a concrete mixture comprised primarily of Portland cement mixed with sand, gravel and water. They can also have pigmentation added to make them various colors, and can have other additives or agents included to give the blocks additional qualities. The concrete mixture is molded into concrete block forms and then is cured and dried. The resulting concrete blocks are low maintenance, fire resistant and can even be energy efficient.

Finishes and styles of concrete blocks can vary as well. For example, a concrete block can be glazed to have a smooth and durable finish, can be split to have a stone like texture, or can be slotted to absorb sound, among other options. Concrete blocks can be manufactured in a wide variety of shapes and sizes as well. The most common type of concrete building blocks are 8” x 8” x 16”, but concrete blocks can be made larger or smaller and can come in different styles, such as concrete block bricks which are often used for patios.

So, what can you do with concrete blocks? Traditional concrete masonry block can be used to build virtually any type of structure. These blocks are often used to construct concrete block walls, whether those walls are being used on the side of a large building, for a garage, or even to create concrete block homes. One very popular use for the blocks is to create a concrete block wall, as a retaining wall or as an external feature in a backyard (for example, in an outdoor kitchen or as a privacy wall alongside a patio). Concrete retaining wall blocks are stacked on top of one another in a staggered fashion with mortar joints and create a secure and solid structure.

Another use for concrete blocks is for laying a patio. Concrete patio blocks come in a selection of styles and decorative options and are an economical option for designing a patio in comparison to natural stone or other alternatives. Decorative concrete blocks can be manufactured to look like bricks or other stone types and can be used to create a beautiful and functional outdoor patio. The decorative concrete block can be laid in various patterns to create an interesting design and block paving is a popular option for patios.

Interlocking concrete blocks are a great option for building retaining walls or other solid and secure structures, or they can be used in place of interlocking pavers at a more economical cost for creating driveways, walkways and patios. Another good use for concrete blocks is to create outdoor fireplaces at a lower cost than stone fireplaces would cost.

There are many concrete block types available to meet the needs of almost any type of outdoor construction project, so no matter what you are looking to build outdoors, you can probably find a type of concrete block available to meet your needs. Some concrete blocks are not overly attractive, but there are others that are very decorative or have various finishes that will not only offer a strong and durable structure, but an attractive one as well.

Laying concrete blocks can be done by homeowners looking to save money on construction costs for outdoor projects. DIY concrete block construction is not overly difficult although there are some basic steps to follow and important points to consider when building with concrete blocks. There are a number of informative articles and videos online that can provide information on laying concrete blocks, and if you have some time and don’t mind a good deal of manual labor, then you can save yourself a lot on labor costs when building a concrete block retaining wall, laying a concrete block patio, or completing another type of building project that involves concrete blocks.

You can find concrete blocks for sale from masonry suppliers, at garden or home improvement centers, or from landscape supply companies. A concrete block supplier will typically have the largest selection of concrete block types for sale and can usually recommend the type of block that will best meet the needs of your project. Concrete block prices will vary depending on the type of block you choose, the size of the block, the amount you need to order, the distance they will need to be delivered (they can be rather heavy and delivery costs can add up quickly), and other factors, but concrete block cost is usually lower than using another type of product for the same job, such as pavers, stone, or bricks.

There are many uses for concrete blocks and many types of concrete blocks to choose from, depending on what you are looking to accomplish and what type of finished look you are hoping to achieve. When it comes to outdoor projects for your backyard, patio, garden or driveway, you may want to consider concrete block construction for its versatility, durability and affordability.

Garden pots can be a great design element when it comes to planning out your garden décor strategy. This is because garden pots add visual interest, create additional textural and color elements in a garden design, and can be easily moved or changed whenever the mood strikes. A garden pot can be virtually any container that will hold plants or flowers and that can be adapted to provide adequate drainage so that the plants thrive.

Gardening pots are sold in a variety of materials and styles, so there is no end to the types of pots that can be utilized in the garden, or on a deck, patio, or porch. When it comes to garden pots and planters, all you need to do is find a material that you like, make sure the size is appropriate for the plants that will be potted, and then find a style that works well in the space within which you are planning on using your garden pot.

Garden pots are available in many materials. Here is a list of some of the more popular ones:

Plastic garden pots – These come in all shapes and sizes, are inexpensive and lightweight. They are also available in a wide variety of colors to fit any décor.

Resin garden pots – The popularity of resin pots stems from the fact that they can be made to look like many other types of pots, such as terracotta, stone, ceramic or stone, yet they are far more lightweight and are also less expensive.

Stone garden pots – Stone has a very textural look which adds visual interest against the softness of flowers or plants. Stone pots can be made from different types of stone and each type offers a unique look. One drawback to these types of pots is that they are very heavy to lift, even when empty so they are not easily moved.

Ceramic garden pots – Ceramic pots offer a huge variety of design options because they can contain any type of design, colors (or series of colors) or finishes. Most ceramic garden pots are glazed so that they have a sealed finish. Some can even contain decorative elements adhered to the pot, such as stones, gems or more. It is best to bring ceramic garden pots indoors (or in a garage) during the winter if temperatures get below freezing since they may crack.

Terracotta garden pots – Terracotta is the material that many people think of when they think of garden flower pots. These pots are traditionally red in color and come in a variety of styles. Terracotta garden pots should also be protected during the winter months.

Clay garden pots – Clay pots are similar to garden pots, except that they do not necessarily have to be reddish in color. Clay pots are even easily made by hand and work best if fired in a kiln and glazed. Clay can also be painted to add visual interest. Like terracotta or ceramic garden pots, clay pots should not be left outdoors during severe winter weather.

Concrete garden pots – Concrete is also a textural element, similar to stone, although it provides a more uniform and rugged look. These types of outdoor garden pots (they’re typically not used indoors) can offer a contemporary feel and are often found as larger planters. One drawback to concrete garden pots is that they are extremely heavy.

Metal garden pots – From aluminum to tin, metal garden pots can be found in a multitude of metals. Each one adds its own specific look, with some looking very contemporary and others blending into a more traditional design. Metal garden pots are typically not as heavy as stone, concrete, or even clay and terracotta pots.

Copper garden pots – Copper garden pots offer a warm and inviting look to a garden’s décor and lend themselves more towards traditional design. The pots age over time into a greenish patina.

Wooden garden pots – Wood provides a very natural and rustic feel but unless they are properly sealed regularly, they will not hold up over the long term. Since the wood will be in constant contact with a moist environment, they will eventually rot. But you will still enjoy years of a natural and weathered look with these types of pots.

Cast iron garden pots – Cast iron garden pots can be a beautiful addition to a traditionally styled garden and will last indefinitely. They are extremely heavy to move, even when empty, so they should be carefully placed in a location where they can remain without being moved.

Decorative garden pots are great for use on decks, patios and porches, in front of garden buildings, and near pools, and add extra color and texture where there are no flower beds available. They are also often used for container gardening or as a place to simply and easily grow a few herbs or fresh vegetables. Container garden pots and herb garden pots come in designs with multiple openings so that different herbs or plants can be situated in the same pot but can be separated, allowing for a variety of plantings with a very small space.

Garden pots and urns or planters are a great addition to any garden. No matter what your budget, you are sure to find a container that enhances your outdoor space. Or, you can simply make your own garden plant pots by finding a sturdy container and drilling a few holes in the bottom for drainage. Making garden pots is a simple activity and a great way to recycle old containers that are no longer being used. Even if you have a container that you have no intention of planting anything in, you can still make a garden hose pot, which provides an attractive way to hide your garden hose when not in use.

No matter what the use or the material, garden pots are a versatile design element that enhance your garden décor.

Garden décor comprises everything in your outdoor space or garden that creates a mood or sets a style for the space. Similar to interior décor, outdoor garden décor sets the theme for what you want your space to look like and different aspects of the way you set up and decorate your backyard or garden will add to that theme. Home and garden décor aren’t really that different in principle, although with lawn and garden décor, you are dealing with a more open and expansive space and it is generally a more informal process.

Outdoor garden décor encompasses everything from whether you have a deck, patio or pool to whether you have loads of beds loaded with wildflowers or a well manicured lawn. But it’s the finishing touches that really set the tone for the style of your backyard – the little accessories placed around the yard that bring in the personal elements that are all your own.

For example, if you are into a whimsical garden décor theme, you may want to place gnome garden statues throughout your flower beds to add some charm. If Asian garden décor is more your thing, then you will tend towards a more manicured look with Asian-inspired accents to give you the feel of the east. Those who like a more rustic garden décor theme may opt for more natural objects made from wood or those with a more classic charm.

When it comes to lawn and garden decorations, there is no end to what you can find if you are looking for it. Home improvement stores, warehouse stores, lawn and garden stores, online retailers and a variety of garden décor catalogs offer loads of different types of garden decorations. From metal garden décor, comprising statues, wall hangings and small or large objects to place around the yard, to theme related items, such as frog garden décor or dragonfly garden décor (two very popular themes!), there are lawn and garden decorations to suit any decorating style. There are also more utilitarian items, such as garden fencing or lighting, that can be found to suit different decorating styles .

Making your garden decorative can be an informal and fun process because many of the rules for interior décor can be lightened up a bit. Unlike the more stringent rules, such as how objects should be placed in groupings or what colors go together well, outdoor garden decorations can be selected piece by piece or simply because you like them or bought them on a whim. There are no rules – after all, your garden space is a place to relax and let loose a little, so the more color and the more interest that graces the nooks and crannies of your backyard, the better. A garden decoration “works” in a space if it makes you happy to look at it. It’s really as simple as that. No fancy experienced decorator needs to tell you that – a garden is a much more informal space than a living room (although there are those that enjoy formal and manicured gardens, and in that case, what makes them happy may be a bit more reserved and streamlined.)

If you are looking for garden décor ideas, peruse through home and garden magazines, spend some time surfing the net, pick up a garden décor catalog, or simply stroll through your favorite stores. Then, when you find something you like, add it to your garden or yard in a place that seems logical and sit back and enjoy the view!

Outdoor landscaping projects are very often done by do-it-yourselfers. Putting in a flower bed, a vegetable garden or a few small trees is a task that most homeowners will choose to do themselves, rather than hiring a professional. Other projects, such as laying mulch, landscaping around a newly installed garden pond, pool or patio, or incorporating a decorative rock garden into a garden décor scheme are all easily accomplished with a little know-how and a bit of sweat equity.

One of the hardest aspects of attempting a do-it-yourself landscape project is determining the correct amount of landscape supplies needed for the job. Landscape supplies, such as top soil, mulch, crushed stone, sand or small pebbles are usually ordered in bulk and are difficult to transport if you run short and have to make a second trip. In many cases, if your project is large enough, landscaping supply companies will deliver the garden landscape supplies directly to your home, since they are too difficult to transport in a car or minivan. That is why it is so important to make sure that you correctly determine the amount of landscape supplies that are needed the first time around.

Many garden landscape supplies are sold by the cubic yard. In order to determine how many cubic yards of any type of landscape material you need, you must first determine the square footage of the area you are looking to cover. This is done by measuring the width and length of the area, if it is a square or rectangle or by determining the diameter of the space if is a circle. Once you have determined the square footage of the area you need to cover, you then need to determine the depth of landscaping supplies that you need to lay and factor that depth into the equation along with the square footage. Square footage is typically measured in feet and depth is measures in inches. One easy way to figure this out is to use a materials calculator that can be found online. This will do all of the calculations for you if you just put in the measurements. Another option is to provide the landscaping suppliers with the dimensions and they will be able to calculate how much you need to order.

Taking the time to accurately determine how much you need when it comes to garden landscape supplies will save you a lot of time, as well as money. Similar to the idea in construction that you should always measure twice and cut once, in order to avoid costly mistakes, making sure that you only need to make one trip to the home improvement or garden store to pick up supplies will allow you to spend your time most efficiently. When you are ordering wholesale landscape supplies, this is especially important since having to arrange for an extra delivery or pick up of additional supplies can be rather costly.

Figuring out your landscaping supply needs is an important step in any do-it-yourself landscape or garden project. If you cannot figure it out yourself, be sure to use a materials calculator online or ask the landscape supply company where you are getting your materials from for help in determining the proper quantity to order.

Your backyard or garden is an extension of your home, and the garden décor you choose says as much about you and your living space as your interior décor. Garden décor encompasses all aspects of your exterior living space, from the landscaping, trees, flowers and shrubs in your backyard, to the small and whimsical items that make your garden yours. There are many types of garden decorations available and a few well placed items can really make your outdoor space one that is unique, relaxing and fun.

Outdoor garden décor can consist of everything from a large gazebo that makes a grand appearance in the middle of your yard, to a wind chime that gently blows in the breeze from a corner branch. There are no steadfast rules for garden décor as there sometimes are for interior décor. When you select garden decorations for your home, it is best to simply select items that you enjoy viewing or that make you feel like your backyard is your own personal oasis.

The process of decorating your yard or garden is similar, however, to how you would decorate the inside of your home. Creating your own unique outdoor space begins with large decisions, such as whether you are going to construct a patio or deck (if you don’t already have one), have a flower or vegetable garden, or plant interesting shrubs or trees. Then to add to the ambience of the space, items such as gazebos, pergolas, arbors, garden bridges, fountains, waterfalls, or ponds can be considered. All of these aspects of home garden décor are rather impactful, since they are usually focal points of your garden or yard. This is similar to deciding on the main decisions of a room within your home, such as architectural elements or wall color.

Once the main focal points have been established, you can then embellish your outdoor living space with some lawn and garden décor, just as you would add furniture to a room after making a few main decisions. Items such as outdoor patio furniture, garden pots and planters, garden benches, patio umbrellas, bird baths or bird feeders, and fire pits fall into this type of garden décor and begin to personalize your outdoor space even more.

Finally, in order to create a space that is truly personal, you can choose a garden decoration or two, which can add to a style of unique garden décor that is yours and yours alone. These items are similar to the accessories that you would add to the interior of your home after the furniture and other larger objects were in place. Garden decoration can take many shapes and forms and can be found in unique objects such as garden statues and sculptures, stepping stones, interesting lawn ornaments, suncatchers, wind chimes, flags or even an interesting rock or sign that is haphazardly placed among your flowers.

Unique and whimsical garden décor can be found in many forms, both large and small. No matter what types of structures, objects or ornaments you decide to add to your garden, you can’t go wrong as long as you are selecting items that make you feel good about enjoying your outdoor space.

There is nothing like the great outdoors, especially when it’s in your own backyard! Being able to enjoy your backyard or garden is one of the great pleasures of being a homeowner. And with the vast assortment of landscape supplies available to today’s homeowners, there is no limit to what you can do to create your own backyard oasis.

When personalizing your backyard, there are many considerations to keep in mind. Do you want a deck or patio? How about a pool? Do you want to leave space for a vegetable or flower garden? Would you like to add interesting and unique features such as a fountain, arch, gazebo or garden building? The possibilities are endless and are limited only by your design ideas, outdoor space and budget. No matter what type of design you choose for your backyard or garden, there is sure to be an assortment of landscape supplies to help you turn your garden decor designs into reality.

Selecting landscape supplies is sometimes done in accordance with a landscape design specialist, or for the do-it-yourselfer, you can view a variety of different landscaping supplies by going to your nearest landscape supply company. Most landscape supplies cannot be ordered online because they are heavy and are ordered in bulk (such as stone, decking, mulch, soil, etc), but there are some items that can be purchased through online landscape supply retailers or even wholesale landscape supply companies. Even if you cannot purchase your supplies online, there are many sites available to give you an idea of what different landscaping supplies look like when incorporated into a finished design, to help make your choices easier.

Depending on what your outdoor project consists of, you will have a wide variety of options to choose from. There are too many types of landscape supplies to even begin to list, but here is a sampling just to give you an idea of how vast your options can be.

For example, if you want to have an outdoor area to sit, dine and entertain, you may be considering building a patio or deck. Once you decide, you will then have to decide what type of landscaping supplies you would like to use. If a deck is your choice, you can choose from a variety of decking materials, including different types of wood (cedar, treated woods, etc) as well as newer recycled products that require virtually no maintenance. But you may also need supplies such as crushed rock or stone, dirt and more to build the foundation of the deck. Patio choices offer an even greater variety of landscape supplies to choose from, such as pavers, brick, natural stone, stamped concrete, patio paving slabs and more, and may also require more ‘behind the scenes’ supplies, such as crushed stone, sand and soil to prepare the area before the final surface is constructed.

There are also a myriad of possibilities for other garden landscape supplies that can accommodate almost any type of design and can add interest to your outdoor space. In addition to bulk products, such as topsoil, mulch, crushed stone and pebbles, gravel, sand, and other landscape hardgoods, there are also a variety of more decorative items that can enhance your backyard or garden. Consider items such as garden edging, bridges, gazebos, arbors, fountains, ponds, garden statues, lighting and more to spruce up your outdoor living space.

The type of supplies you choose and the landscape suppliers you select will be determined in large part by the type of outdoor project you are undertaking. For smaller projects you may be able to purchase your supplies from online landscape suppliers, but for larger projects it is best to find wholesale landscape supplies from a local company at a reduced rate. If you are working with a landscape designer, they very often have a prior relationship with wholesalers to get you the best prices possible on landscaping supplies. But, even if you are tackling a garden or landscape project on your own, you should be able to find landscape supplies that fit your needs at a price that you are comfortable with. Finding suppliers that will deliver the materials to your home is also an important consideration, especially with bulk supplies or larger items.
