Replace when necessary – The great thing about most sunrooms is their casual appeal.  This means that most people opt to buy casual sunroom furniture to relax and enjoy their space, but casual should not be confused with cheap.  If you opt for high quality furniture over cheap sunroom furniture, however casual the style may be, you should be able to enjoy your furniture for many years.  However, if you instead choose cheap sunroom furniture sets or individual pieces just to fill the space, you may be heading back to the store earlier than you would like to replace the furniture because it is broken, worn or uncomfortable.  If budget is an issue, scour stores for discount sunroom furniture or a sunroom furniture clearance sale at the end of the season to get a good deal on price, without skimping on quality.  This will help you stay within your budget, while leaving you with sunroom furniture that you can enjoy for a long time with only minimal care and maintenance requirements.

A hammock is basically just a netting of fabric or rope that is strung together and is then hung between two support structures, such as a pair of trees or a hammock stand.  The pocket it creates is perfect for laying on or sitting in and provides a casual and relaxing piece of outdoor patio furniture.    A single hammock is intended for one person to enjoy, while a double hammock offers additional room for one, or a space to share.

There are three main activities to enjoy while on a hammock: swinging, resting, and sleeping.  As one lies in a double hammock, they have the option of swinging in the breeze, gently swaying in the wind and admiring the garden decor, or remaining rather stationary to rest or sleep.  Although the very first hammocks were created by natives that live in tropical rain forest areas as beds to sleep in, they are now mainly associated with relaxation in the summer sun (although they’ve been known to be the perfect place to take a quiet snooze!).

Double hammocks are aptly named because they are wider than a regular hammock and can fit two people in them at one time.  That means that you and your spouse can get away from everything for a little and just unwind together, or the kids can have some swinging time together without having to fight over who gets the hammock first.

If you decide that you would like to experience the tranquility that a hammock can offer and you want to go out and buy one, then there are many options that you can choose from.  The first decision you need to make is whether you want a double rope hammock or a double parachute hammock.  Double parachute hammocks are made of fabric rather than rope, which is stretched out between two end supports.  Double rope hammocks are made from intertwined rope that is woven to allow you to lay or sit on it without falling through.  Both kinds offer a comfortable place to relax, but will provide a bit of a different look and feel, so you just need to choose which one you prefer.

Obviously, like everything else, there are different double hammock prices, that depend mostly on style and quality.  More expensive hammocks are usually made to be placed permanently in one location and are made of durable materials that will not fade or get ruined with use and weather abuse.  Some less expensive double hammocks are lighter in weight, and although they may not be as durable, they are easier to set up and take down, but they may only last a season or two.  Double hammock stands will usually cost as much or more than the double hammock itself (usually around $100 – $200), so factor that into your budget if you are not hanging your hammock from some trees.

There are also double travel hammocks, which are intended to be fully lightweight and portable so that you can bring them along wherever you go.  These cheap double hammocks are not usually the best quality, but if you are constantly on the move, they may be the right choice for you because they are very versatile.  There are also double hammock chairs, which have the same basic look and feel of a more traditional double hammock, but are made to hold two people sitting more upright, rather than laying down.

No matter what style you choose, a double person hammock will provide you with the utmost in relaxation and tranquility, whether you choose to share the added space with another or keep it all to yourself.

Rocking chairs are one of the most cherished pieces of furniture brought into a home because of their functionality, style and comfort. A rocker is a chair that traditionally has two curved pieces attached on the bottom that allows the occupant to rock back and forth. The wicker rocker is the earliest of its kind and has its own particular charm.

Outdoor resin wicker rockers come in many colors so it is easy to find one that blends well with the color scheme of your home’s design.  Natural wicker rockers, on the other hand, can be painted any color you would like, but will require regular paint jobs and sealing to keep their appearance looking fresh and new.

Like many types of furniture, wicker rockers may also be custom-made to suit the interior or exterior design of the house, although you can usually find one you like that has already been manufactured.  Custom models are usually made from natural materials and are hand woven according to your specifications.  Custom wicker rocker prices may be relatively more affordable than other types of custom-made rockers, but anything custom-made will still typically carry a fairly hefty price tag. Just remember that a general rule still applies – the higher the quality and the more unique the design, the higher the price usually is.

To begin with, if you haven’t purchased your rocking chair yet, choose an appropriate material for your outdoor rocking chair such as teak, cedar, redwood or cherry.  These types of materials will help your wooden rocking chair stand up to the elements for years and will reduce the amount of time you spend maintaining it.

If you’re like many people, it’s the time of year when you start digging out the outdoor patio furniture in preparation for the summer bbq’s, parties and gatherings.  If you are one of those folks that need to get your wooden rocking chairs out of storage and get them fixed up so you can relax and enjoy on a summer Saturday afternoon enjoying your backyard and garden, read on for some useful tips on how to get that done.

Mold is your outdoor wooden rocking chair’s enemy and this is one of the first things you should look for prior to sprucing up your chair.  If you live in an area with high humidity and moisture, check your chair carefully.  To help prevent mold from forming in the first place, spray a solution of vinegar and water over the chair in areas where mold may form, and especially on the undersides of the chair.  Let the chair dry completely in the sun before stowing it away.

Chances are that you will need to clean up your rocking chair and apply some sort of finish to revitalize it before using it again this season.  Here are some tips for preparing and finishing your chair properly:

• Use a coarse grade sand paper to smooth out rough spots or remove any peeling paint.
• After sanding, clean furniture by either power washing it if it’s extremely dirty (but be careful if it’s a painted surface since this could peel off the paint), or brushing with a bit of soap and water (which will usually get the majority of dirt and grime off).  Use a quality wood cleaner that you can find at your local hardware store, such as Murphy’s oil soap, if you don’t want to use soap and water.
• Let furniture dry completely after washing.
• Make sure furniture is clean and dry prior to applying any type of paint or stain.  Oil based stains or paints work best for outdoor rocking chairs.
• Finally, use a sealer so your chair will last much longer – look for one that provides water repellent properties.

Give your wooden chair a good inspection to find any areas that may have become loose such as spindles or joints that may require repair or just re-gluing.  Wood putty can be used to fill in any damaged areas.

You should also keep your wood furniture out of the rain as much as possible, even though many of the woods used in outdoor chairs are very good at weathering the elements.  Use outdoor furniture covers or store under a patio cover to prolong the life of your wooden rocking chair.  Store the chairs inside during winter months if possible, or in a garage or shed, making sure your rocking chair is clean and dry prior to storage to avoid mold.

Not only should you consider the material used for constructing the patio bar stool itself, but you should also consider the design and intended purpose of the stool.  Another factor that you should consider is the location where you will use the stools.  If you intend to use the bar stools you buy in both an outdoor and indoor location, you may want to get some folding bar stools, since they are portable, which makes it an ideal choice for moving the stools around wherever you may need them.  Folding bar stools are also a good idea for outdoor use if you live in an area that is prone to extreme weather.  You can easily fold up the stools and take them indoors or store them in the garage or a storage shed when the bad weather approaches, or if it is too windy or stormy. This can extend the bar stools life span and usability.

One of the biggest difficulties in deciding what to do with damaged redwood furniture is how to match the stain on the furniture.  Although there are many types of wood stains on the market, it’s been my experience that it’s generally hard to match a redwood stain well.  This makes making a decision on repair or replacing damaged redwood even harder.  Below are a few tips on redwood furniture repair so you can decide if it is a task worth tackling for your own outdoor furniture, or whether you should just skip the effort and head to a store to buy new redwood furniture.

Cracks, dings and small breaks can be repaired rather easily.  Just remember, if you use glue to make such repairs, do not use yellow glue, because it’s not waterproof.  Instead, use epoxy or glue specifically designed for outside use.

I’ve used wood putty and bond to successfully repair redwood furniture, but I prefer to use it in a place that is not readily seen in case the stain doesn’t match.  I haven’t had this happen often, and in reality it’s nearly impossible to always hide a repair, so make sure you get as close as possible in matching putty or stain to the wood you’re repairing.

It’s also a good idea to wash all stain off the wood thoroughly.  If you don’t, you stand to have redwood stains on your deck or patio from the excess stain washing off during a good rain.  You should also wash off new redwood furniture just for this reason.  It can save you a lot of frustration down the line, and a lot of headaches when you have to fix up your deck or patio from the transferred stain.

If the piece of furniture you’re trying to repair is heavily damaged, it may be cheaper to just go ahead and replace it.  Just make sure the new redwood furniture matches the older pieces, unless you are replacing the entire set at once.  This can be very difficult to do if you happen to have older redwood furniture, but it is possible if you look around enough.  Otherwise, find a contrasting piece of furniture that will look good with your existing patio or outdoor dining furniture, rather than putting a new and old piece of furniture together side by side that just look like what they are – a new and old piece of furniture that really don’t go together well.

Most redwood furniture will be strong and durable and will last for many years of outdoor use.  But like any other type of wood furniture, or any outdoor furniture for that matter, there will probably come a time when you need to decide whether to repair your redwood furniture, or replace it.  After reading a few of these tips, hopefully your decision will be an easier one to make.

Some of these table and chair sets are relatively well made and will last in spite of their generic branding.  Many others will fall apart in a year or a few short years, leaving consumers with the choice of finding a better option next time, or buying a new set every year or couple of years.

This week, I embarked on a virtual journey to find companies that make good folding chairs and other outdoor furniture, and what I found was astounding.  Hundreds, if not thousands, of folding chairs were available to me at the click of my mouse.  Most did not carry a recognizable brand name, but a couple of companies stood out.

Kingsley-Bate was one such company.  They are an American company that makes quality teak furniture used in famous places like Disney World, Hyatt Regency, Boston Symphony Orchestra-Tanglewood, and more.
