A leaf sweeper is one of the best pieces of garden equipment you can invest in to help achieve a beautiful lawn. It keeps your yard from getting buried under last season’s fallen debris or summer’s grass trimmings. Keeping your lawn’s appearance manicured and professionally maintained is effortless with the help of leaf sweepers.

The Basics

The leaf sweeper, or lawn sweeper as it is also known, is a mechanical implement used to collect debris such as fallen leaves, grass clippings or any litter from paved or level surfaces like a lawn. It is operated by a revolving mechanism that picks up the leaves or other debris and places it into a container for later discard.

Lawn leaf sweepers have two main types – manual or hand powered, and motorized. The motorized models can be further classified into a push or rolling leaf sweeper or a tow behind leaf sweeper. They can also be bought with a built-in shredder attached. Determining the best choice for you will depend on your needs.

Push leaf sweepers or hand-powered leaf sweepers use gears for the brush mechanism to rotate picking up debris and transferring it into an attached bag called a hopper. The height of the rollers can be adjusted so they can be used on different surfaces, including non-grassy areas such as patio slabs or stone walkways.

Powered lawn sweepers are similar to push lawn sweepers, except that they use gasoline, oil or electricity to operate the brush mechanism. These are ideal to use for larger lawns and gardens. The height of their rollers can also be modified. One disadvantage of powered lawn sweepers is the noise they generate.

A powered leaf collector with a shredder allows the user to produce mulch with the leaves that it collects. The shredder, however, limits it use on certain surfaces. Towed lawn sweepers operate very much like the others, but instead of being pushed, they need a small vehicle, such as a garden tractor, lawnmower or ATV to lug it around. The brush heights may be modified as well so it can be used on different surfaces.

Making the Decision to Buy

Spending money on a leaf lawn sweeper takes some consideration. In addition to what they cost, you also need to think about storage. Tow lawn sweepers use up a large space to store them. Because they are equipped with a large hamper or hopper, it is not simple to stow them away. Hand powered lawn sweepers, on the other hand, take up less space to store compared with towed sweepers. They are smaller and some can even be folded. Some are even light enough to hang on the wall right next to your garden tool rack.

Another benefit to choosing manual leaf sweepers over powered sweepers is that since they require no power, they are less harmful to the environment.

The size of your yard and how much debris you typically need to clean up will also help you figure out which is the best lawn sweeper to buy to meet your needs. Hopper size will also be determined by these factors.

Where you buy a lawn sweeper should also be considered. Look for a reputable supplier and look for manufacturers that offer good warranties. Warranties are important in case a problem arises. Availability of parts should also be considered. It’s also a good idea to check up front to see if finding leaf sweeper replacement parts is easy for the particular model you are considering. You don’t want to buy a model that you will later find out is near impossible to find parts for, leaving you stuck to buy a whole new apparatus down the road.

In addition to all of these considerations, lawn sweeper prices are another important factor to think about. The quality, type and model of your sweeper will depend on the money you are willing to spend.

Leaf Sweeper Maintenance

Different types of lawn and leaf sweepers have their own advantages and disadvantages, but one thing they have in common is their need for proper maintenance. Caring for your sweeper ensures that they deliver the best performance. Apart from this, keeping them well-maintained helps ensure that they last for a very long time.

Maintenance of leaf sweepers is as simple as following the directions in the User’s Manual which shows you how the machine is operated, cleaned and replaced with parts. Below are general instructions on cleaning your leaf sweeper, which is generally common to all models:

Before every use, inspect the overall condition of the sweeper. Check for damage, loose screws, misalignment, sticks or breaks in moving parts.

Oil the brush shaft bearings twice a year.

Clean the hopper. Dispose of everything in it after each use. Use a dry rag to clean the insides.

Avoid using it on wet leaves. If this happens, make sure to clean and wipe after use.

Clean the wheels regularly. Apply an even coat of light grease after. Make sure not to overtighten the wheel bolt and nut.

Clean the brushes. Remove the hopper first then wipe the brushes.

Wipe the sweeper down after every use. Just take a rag and wipe it off.

Store the leaf sweeper properly after use.

Proper Handling

It is also important to follow safety precautions for the health and safety of the user. Below is a list of general advice to follow:

Do not use leaf or lawn sweepers in extremely wet places.

Keep children away.

Use only identical replacement parts.

Do not use a leaf sweeper for any job except that for which it is intended.

Do not force the sweeper.

Store when not in use.

Do not perform any maintenance or make repairs while the sweeper is moving.

Green Living with Leaf Sweepers

One great benefit in using a leaf sweeper is its help in protecting the environment, especially those not powered by gas or oil. They do not emit fumes, and unlike leaf blowers or leaf vacuums, they do not add to carbon emissions, which increase the health risk for respiratory diseases.

Below are more environmental benefits of leaf sweepers:

Harvests weed seeds and reduce their growth, which in turn reduces the need for a chemical weed control service.

Reduces the aggravation of allergy and hay fever because of grass clippings.

Reduces health problems such as asthma and hay fever because of grass, tree and weed pollen.

Reduces the risk of fires because of debris.

Helps eliminate potential breeding grounds for insects like flies.

Some debris can become potential sources of alternative fuel. Grass, for example, is now being converted into bio crude oil.

Collected debris can also be made into mulch or compost. Compost is any organic matter that has been decayed for use of aiding the growth of plants and trees in particular. Mulch on the other hand is used to suppress growth, weeds specifically, and should not have undergone decomposition.

To make compost, collect shredded leaves and place them in a compost bin. Mix and water the ingredients. Turn the mixture over and swap the layers to ensure that decomposition becomes even. Once decomposed thoroughly, transfer it to another container.

To make mulch, just shred leaves and they are ready to use. Unlike compost, you do not need to do any treatments on it once placed in a bin.

Keeping your backyard and garden clean and your lawn looking perfectly manicured takes a lot of effort and time, and buying a leaf sweeper will probably be the best investment you will ever make in this aspect.

Enclosed patios are great additions to any home. They are versatile improvements that offer multi-functionality that can be enjoyed all year round. Enclosing a patio provides comfortable shelter from different elements through the year, from the blistering heat of the summer sun to the blistering cold of a winter day. Enclosed patios also help prevent dust and other dirt from settling inside, while at the same time protecting your family from the risks brought by insects and small rodents. Enclosing a patio is also a great way to add more privacy to your home, as well as more usable living space.

An enclosed patio serves many purposes. It can be the venue for gatherings or parties. It is a great place to enjoy a meal al fresco. It is a good place to set up a small play area for young children. You can even set it up as a family recreational area by adding a pool table or other types of games or recreational activities. Or it can simply be a place to relax with a good book or a glass of wine at the end of the day. All in all, enclosed patios are ideal places for any activity, and will allow you to enjoy the outdoors in relative safety and comfort. What you choose to do with the space will be determined by the type of outdoor patio furniture or other accessories you choose to fill the space with.

There are many enclosed patio designs available that you can choose from. They range from sunrooms to screened patios or porches, and even portable enclosed patios. Enclosing a patio can be a permanent structure or a more temporary solution, such as adding a roll up awning overhead.

A sunroom, also called solarium, allows the sunlight into the room while keeping the area enclosed from the outdoor elements. A screened patio is more ideal for preventing unwanted elements like dust or insects from entering your room while allowing the cooling breeze inside and more connection to your backyard and garden area. Portable enclosed patios, on the other hand, are usually made of canvas or vinyl. They are like big open tents that can be easily moved to different locations in your backyard. Despite being portable, you can still opt to have them fixed into place. Temporary patio enclosures, such as overhead awnings or pop up gazebos, with or without sides, are quick and easy solutions to providing shelter while not dealing with a major construction project.

One of the easiest ways to build enclosed patios is by assembling and installing a frame around your existing patio and then adding screens to the sides and a roof overhead. To add more privacy and protection, a more opaque covering can be used along the sides, but this will block air flow.

Another simple enclosed patio design that you can do on your own is to make mosquito netting screens for your patio. They are easy to make and install. Aside from the protection they give, they can also add style to your patio because of the many colors and textures you can choose from. One great advantage of mosquito netting is that it is easy to maintain. You just need to wash them occasionally, which is easy to do since it is not a permanent patio enclosure solution. You can just spread them open when you need to and tie it closed when you don’t. To make a mosquito screen for your enclosed patios, simply follow instructions on how to make regular curtains and replace the fabric with mosquito netting. Then you can hang the mosquito netting screens from existing patio or porch awnings to fully enclose the patio.

If you are looking for additional enclosed patio ideas, there are many more variations to consider. One option is to have an open lattice patio cover overhead, which only partially encloses the patio. If you are into gardening in and around your patio, this can help protect plants from direct sunlight. Another option is a patio with a solid lattice cover. This provides more protection from rain or snow, as well as sunlight, but makes it darker on the patio below. A gazebo like structure is also another option for enclosed patios that look good while providing some protection and privacy.

When it comes to the actual building of these various enclosed patio designs, there are numerous materials to choose from, including traditional choices such as wood, metal and aluminum. Newer innovations for patio covers and patio enclosures include alumawood, PVC and vinyl. Some structures will include glass windows while others will have mesh to allow the flow of air through the enclosed patio space.

Alumawood replicates the look of real wood, but with less maintenance required. Its finish is made of silicon polyester that has great durability and its embossed texture offers decorative flair. Vinyl patio covers, on the other hand, are made out of polyvinyl chloride or PVC. They also simulate the look of real wood or metal, but with far less maintenance requirements. They come in pre-cut sizes for easy installation. These options can be more costly relative to the other options, but they will require far less maintenance than material choices like wood.

There are many options to consider if you are interested in building an enclosed patio, ranging from permanent to temporary enclosed patio solutions, so make sure to weigh each option to select which will best meet your needs, as well as your budget.

During the summer time, or just about any other time during the year, we all like to kick back and relax for a bit at the end of a hard day. One great way to relax outdoors is by setting up a double hammock in your backyard or garden and swinging in the breeze, either alone or with your favorite someone.

A hammock is basically just a netting of fabric or rope that is strung together and is then hung between two support structures, such as a pair of trees or a hammock stand. The pocket it creates is perfect for laying on or sitting in and provides a casual and relaxing piece of outdoor patio furniture. A single hammock is intended for one person to enjoy, while a double hammock offers additional room for one, or a space to share.

There are three main activities to enjoy while on a hammock: swinging, resting, and sleeping. As one lies in a double hammock, they have the option of swinging in the breeze, gently swaying in the wind and admiring the garden decor, or remaining rather stationary to rest or sleep. Although the very first hammocks were created by natives that live in tropical rain forest areas as beds to sleep in, they are now mainly associated with relaxation in the summer sun (although they’ve been known to be the perfect place to take a quiet snooze!).

Double hammocks are aptly named because they are wider than a regular hammock and can fit two people in them at one time. That means that you and your spouse can get away from everything for a little and just unwind together, or the kids can have some swinging time together without having to fight over who gets the hammock first.

Some double hammocks can be hung between two sturdy trees, but if you do not have trees that are spaced apart to correctly anchor the hammock or that are not sturdy enough, you can always instead opt to buy a double hammock stand. The double hammock stands to do not take up much more room than a double hammock attached to trees, and even if you have trees, a double hammock with stand provides you with a bit more flexibility as to where to place your hammock. Most double hammock stands come with a set of wheels at the bottom of the stand to make it easier to move the double hammock and stand around to any location you desire. Some stands even come with a shade canopy overhead to provide a respite from the sun while you swing.

If you opt to hang your double hammock between two trees, you can enjoy the shade of the trees, as well as the added breeze created as the leaves blowing in the wind overhead. However, when the leaves start to fall, they will fall all over your hammock and can make a mess.

If you decide that you would like to experience the tranquility that a hammock can offer and you want to go out and buy one, then there are many options that you can choose from. The first decision you need to make is whether you want a double rope hammock or a double parachute hammock. Double parachute hammocks are made of fabric rather than rope, which is stretched out between two end supports. Double rope hammocks are made from intertwined rope that is woven to allow you to lay or sit on it without falling through. Both kinds offer a comfortable place to relax, but will provide a bit of a different look and feel, so you just need to choose which one you prefer.

Obviously, like everything else, there are different double hammock prices, that depend mostly on style and quality. More expensive hammocks are usually made to be placed permanently in one location and are made of durable materials that will not fade or get ruined with use and weather abuse. Some less expensive double hammocks are lighter in weight, and although they may not be as durable, they are easier to set up and take down, but they may only last a season or two. Double hammock stands will usually cost as much or more than the double hammock itself (usually around $100 – $200), so factor that into your budget if you are not hanging your hammock from some trees.

There are also double travel hammocks, which are intended to be fully lightweight and portable so that you can bring them along wherever you go. These cheap double hammocks are not usually the best quality, but if you are constantly on the move, they may be the right choice for you because they are very versatile. There are also double hammock chairs, which have the same basic look and feel of a more traditional double hammock, but are made to hold two people sitting more upright, rather than laying down.

No matter what style you choose, a double person hammock will provide you with the utmost in relaxation and tranquility, whether you choose to share the added space with another or keep it all to yourself.

The feeling of flying through the air is one like none other. That is why so many children enjoy jumping on trampolines. 12ft trampolines are becoming more and more popular purchases to be placed in residential backyards. They are usually relatively inexpensive and offer hours upon hours of fun times and enjoyment to whomever is jumping on them, as well as some good exercise.

A trampoline is basically a taut piece of fabric that is very strong and can hold the weight of the jumpers. That piece of fabric is then connected to a metal frame by many small metal springs. Due to the fabric being taut, the springs make the fabric act like elastic when it is jumped on. The tension of the fabric then launches the jumper into the air repeatedly each time the jumper lands on the fabric.

There is nothing very special about a 12ft trampoline compared to those of other sizes, except for the fact that it is one of the most popular sizes of trampolines for recreational use. Trampolines can range from 6 feet on up, although there are even mini trampolines for individual use (they are usually used indoors). 12ft trampolines are a good size because they can fit a couple of people at a time and provide adequate jumping room, without taking up a tremendous amount of space in the yard. If however, you are very short on space, you may want to consider a 10ft trampoline instead, although this will give you more limited jumping room.

Aside from the size of the trampoline, you will also have to pick the shape of the trampoline. The shape is not a big part in the decision process because they all work the same way, but most standard trampolines, especially 12ft trampolines, are round. The basic shapes you have to pick from are round, oval, square, rectangle, hexagon, or octagon. If you have a specific space to fit your trampoline and a round one doesn’t work, you may have to search for a different shape.

When it comes to budget, there can be a variety of price points among trampolines. 12ft trampoline prices will be in the same general range, and will differ more from other sized trampolines than from each other, but the quality of the trampoline will have an impact on the price, as well as some optional features. As with other products, the more you generally spend, the higher the quality will be of the apparatus and the longer it may last. Cheap 12ft trampolines may not hold up well over time and can even be a safety hazard if they are not equipped to hold the weight or number of people that a typical 12ft trampoline is intended to accommodate. If you buy 12ft trampolines that cost a little more, they will usually have stronger springs, a more durable fabric on the jumping surface, and may even have additional padding around the edges, as well as other safety features such as enclosures or mats.

One consideration that will affect the price of 12ft trampolines, or any other size trampoline for that matter, is whether or not it has a safety enclosure included in the package. Even though trampolines can be a lot of fun, they can at the same time be very dangerous as well. A 12 ft trampoline with enclosure is a great solution to keeping jumpers as safe as possible. Many brands will sell their 12ft trampolines with enclosures so that the safety net is made to fit the exact model of the trampoline and is part of the initial set up instructions, making it more likely that it will be used.

A trampoline enclosure is basically netting that is placed around the whole trampoline, reaching high enough up that it prevents jumpers from easily falling off the sides. It does not matter what shape trampoline you have because there should be enclosures made to fit any shape or size trampoline. If the particular 12ft trampoline model you are considering does not come standard with a safety enclosure, you can usually buy a 12ft trampoline enclosure separately and as long as it is made to fit the same shape as you have, it should be able to be attached to the trampoline you buy. If at all possible though, it is best to try to buy a 12ft trampoline and enclosure together, to better guarantee that the enclosure will fit properly and that jumpers will remain as safe as possible.

Buying a trampoline is a great decision because kids of all ages can have so much fun on it and trampolines are a great form of exercise. If you have the room, 12ft trampolines are the way to go, since they provide ample tumbling space and can accommodate multiple people at the same time, without being overly large and taking up too much room. But if you don’t have the room, you can still get enjoyment out of a 10ft or 8ft trampoline. No matter what type of trampoline you decide to buy, however, consider safety first. That is why you should also consider a 12ft trampoline enclosure if the model you buy doesn’t already come with one, as well as some safety mats to place on the ground along the edges of the trampoline. This will ensure that in addition to enjoyment and good exercise, everyone stays safe.

The old adage “good things come in small packages” is very apt when speaking of protecting your home from damages. Minor details, often overlooked, are usually the ones that provide the greatest payoff in the future. This is certainly the case with gutters.

A guttering system includes the trough-like attachments found on the edge of a home’s roof that are designed to collect and direct water away from the vital sections of the house. It is ordinarily constructed from galvanized or cast iron, plastic or vinyl, copper, aluminum, metal or wood. Plastic gutters are recognized as some of the most widely used in homes due to their relatively low cost, low maintenance requirements and durability.

To determine the best guttering system to meet your requirements, it is helpful to familiarize yourself with the pluses and minuses of different kinds you can choose from.

The earliest forms of gutters were made out of wood. These have slowly lost their appeal because of their susceptibility to rotting. Nowadays, the most commonly seen guttering found at homes are plastic gutters. Aluminum gutters are also popular, although they require a bit more maintenance and cost more. Copper gutters are expensive, and although they add to the appeal of some home styles, they are not for everyone.

Usually a plastic gutter is made out of vinyl or some type of plastic composite. They are the most prevalently used gutters by homeowners due to several factors.

First, plastic rain gutters are easily sourced online or at your local home improvement stores. They can be bought in practical kits that come with simple do-it-yourself instructions that eliminate the need to hire professionals. Gutters made of aluminum, copper and galvanized or cast iron may require skilled handling.

Second, plastic gutters are comparatively more affordable than copper and cast iron or steel, or even aluminum. This cost difference can really add up when you are guttering your whole house.

Another great advantage of using a plastic rain gutter is its uncomplicated upkeep. Unlike gutters made out of metal or alloys, they are not subject to rust or oxidation. If not appropriately cared for, the most common setback encountered in the use of plastic gutters are cracks or breaks caused by extreme environments. This can easily be solved with the application of a sealant or glue. Use of plastic gutters may not be a wise choice in locations prone to extreme temperature fluctuations, however.

Plastic rain gutters are composed of several basic components, including the gutter sections, downspouts, splash blocks and elbows. The gutter section is a sloped piece of tube or canal that directs water from the edge of the roof to the downspouts in order to drain. The downspout or down pipe is the vertical section of the gutter where water flows to a drain or splash block and then runs off away from the house. The splash block, also known as the downspout extension, is located at the end of the downspout and keeps water from pooling near the foundation. Lastly, the elbow is a curved or angled gutter piece used to join sections at corners or bends.

If you are installing plastic gutters yourself, you can either buy all of the pieces separately, or you can buy them as a kit, which is easier. Once you have purchased a plastic gutter kit, you’ll then have to assemble all of the components together and attach them to the edges of your roof and sides of your home.

Before you do this, make sure that you have the proper tools and gear ready. Basic tools you will need to install your plastic gutters include the following:

• Ladder
• Tape measure
• Chalk line
• String and carpenter’s levels
• Power drill and screwdriver bits
• Fine tooth hacksaw
• Galvanized screws
• Vinyl or plastic gutters, hangers, connectors, elbows, downspouts, drop outlets, corners

The next steps simply involve following the directions in your manufacturer’s manual which comes with your plastic gutter kit. Make sure the proper angles are used so that water naturally runs down into the downspouts, and make sure the gutters and downspouts are all secured to the house properly.

Once installed, plastic gutters can typically endure up to 10 years or more, or even for the life of your house, if properly cared for. But this requires regular care and maintenance that is frequently overlooked because of the time and effort it takes. Fortunately plastic rain gutters entail lower maintenance to keep them working properly than other gutter types.

Just follow a few simple tips to keep your new plastic gutters working optimally. First, clean your gutters twice a year, ideally during spring or fall. Regular gutter cleaning is important, no matter what type of gutters you have. Second, check for sagging, water pooling under gutters, flooding or leaks, damages on paint siding, trim or house shutters (which would indicate that water is running down the side of the house) and clogged downspouts. Since you are using plastic or vinyl gutters, you shouldn’t have a problem with rust, but if you are using metal screws or attachments, you may have to check for rust there. Third, remove any loose debris using a hose or if necessary a plumber’s snake. If it the debris becomes unmanageable, you might want to consider installing a screen or plastic gutter guards. If you continually find that your gutters are becoming a home for local birds to nest in, you may want to install some plastic bird spikes right along the edge of the gutters to keep birds out and stop their nests from blocking the flow of water in your gutters.

Always make sure that you have the right tools and gear during the maintenance of your plastic gutters. You will need a ladder, gloves, a garbage can or heavy-duty trash bag, a garden hose, safety glasses and a garden trowel for your gutter cleaning tasks. Make sure to secure your ladder on an even surface and keep it securely against the roof. As an added precaution, always try to work with a partner.

There are numerous options when it comes to choosing a guttering system for your house, but plastic gutters have quite a few benefits, including low cost, low maintenance and ease of installation. All reasons that make a plastic gutter system one of the most popular types chosen by homeowners today.

Aside from plants, patio paving is one of the most important elements that can set the mood and rhythm of your outdoor design. There are many materials that can be used in paving your patio. Among them are bricks, natural stone, concrete and concrete blocks, manufactured patio pavers, patio slabs, and more. Each has its own distinct characteristics, but all of them come in various designs, colors and textures so you have many options to choose from.

Patio paving can be one of the most expensive items in your landscaping budget, so it is wise to consider carefully and prepare well before starting any patio paving design and installation project.

First think about the location and purpose of the area you want to pave. Will it be a small patio made to house just a few chairs, a large expanse that will include an outdoor kitchen along with some outdoor dining furniture, a patio surrounding an inground pool area or a meandering garden path? This will help identify the type of patio pavers you should use. Natural stones, for example, are not ideal for compression sensitive areas or those areas that get tremendous amounts of wear and tear. Patio paving stones, on the other hand, can be made from most kinds of stone – cast, natural or reconstituted – and are ideal for almost all applications and are more durable.

A natural patio paving stone is quarried and can be scaled into various sizes and shapes for different pattern layouts. Sandstone, slate, granite and limestone are some of the most common of the natural patio paving materials used. Travertine tiles can also be used in some climates. All of these natural materials are strong enough to last and to withstand hard use.

Cast patio pavers are made of concrete, clay or reconstituted stone. Reconstituted stones are a mixture of concrete and stones and are less expensive than natural stones. They are easy to install and are less prone to cracking, but they offer a bit less creativity and natural design. There are other patio paving materials as well, such as brick, concrete blocks, stamped concrete, and patio paving slabs, to choose from as well.

Making sure that the materials you choose blend well with the other design elements in your backyard or garden is very important. Cost is another consideration in the selection of materials for patio paving. For garden patio paving, gravel is an inexpensive option but needs considerable weed maintenance, sometimes even requiring a regular weed control service to keep things looking good. Concrete requires some skill and special equipment for proper installation but can still be cheaper than natural stone, and if you opt for stamped concrete, it can offer the same basic look. Patio paving slabs can be more economical than individual stones, bricks or blocks. Brick, tile, granite and other natural stones are very decorative, but are more expensive patio paving options. Block paving is another pricey option but gives you lots of versatility in design.

After choosing the best patio paving material, draw up a plan for what you want your finished patio to look like. This will save you time, money and effort. Your plan will help determine the sizing of the finished space, the pattern of the materials, the amount of materials needed and any patio paving equipment required to properly complete the job.

Once you’ve decided on your patio design and materials, you then need to decide whether you will do the installation yourself or will hire a professional. If you are hiring a patio paving contractor, make sure to only hire accredited contractors. You should get at least 3 quotes to price out the job and should ask for references. Conduct an inspection of their previous work, or better yet, ask your friends and neighbors for referrals. If you are opting for a DIY patio paving job instead, make sure you understand all aspects of the job, have the proper tools needed (you can rent some if you don’t have them) and follow proper safety precautions when operating any tools or equipment. Patio paving is not an easy job, so be sure that you are ready to tackle the task on your own.

Once you have completed your patio, you then have to consider some regular maintenance of it to keep it looking its best. What you need to do will depend on what type of patio paving material you have chosen. If you opted for individual patio pavers or bricks, you may have to continuously keep up with weed growth between the cracks. Some patio paving materials require sealers to keep the patio looking its best. Some paving choices require virtually no maintenance at all other than an occasional cleaning.

No matter what materials you choose, you will need to keep your paved patio clean. This typically requires just a spray of the garden hose. Most patio paving materials cannot withstand the force of a high powered pressure washer, so take care in using them or don’t use them at all. Some paving materials can use a periodic scrubbing with a mild soap to remove stains, dirt or mildew.

Installing a new patio, pool surround, or walkway in your garden area is a major home improvement project and one that comes with many options – as well as large expenses. With so many patio paving options available, however, it is fairly simple to find a look you like while remaining within a specified budget. Just take the time to look at examples of other patios to decide what you like best, what fits well with the rest of your backyard and garden décor, and what materials will hold up best in the climate in which you live. By doing a bit of homework up front, you should be able to enjoy your new patio for many years to come.

Trampolining is not only a great form of exercise, it also provides entertainment while enjoying the outdoors, and most importantly is simply lots of fun. Aside from offering health and recreational benefits, it can also have competitive value as well for those engaged in sports requiring jumping, twisting, and flexibility.

A trampoline consists of a piece of taut, strong fabric stretched over a steel frame connected by numerous coiled springs, which gives it elasticity. A 10ft trampoline is an idyllic size for the outdoors, especially for a small family or for those with fairly limited space. It is certainly adequate for growing kids looking for outdoor recreation. 10 ft trampolines provide a total surface area of over 78ft, giving kids enough space to bounce safely.

It is recommended that 10ft trampolines have at least 72 springs and that the springs be 7 inches each, to distribute the weight and lessen the threat of breakages. However, most models generally have 60 to 72 springs with a length between 7 and 8.5 inches, so you should look closely when shopping. Those with more springs or larger springs will usually be more durable and also safer, so if you can afford the extra money they cost, it is worth the investment. An average 10ft trampoline should have a weight limit of around 100kg or 220lbs. The weight limit of trampolines depends on the thickness of the steel frame and the size and strength of the springs.

When you are looking for 10ft trampolines for sale, you will find many usually will come with an enclosure included (which is great for safety purposes), averaging between $200 and $300 in price. As with most other products, the quality of the equipment, as well as optional upgrades, affects the price. A trampoline enclosure is usually included with the basic package for some 10ft trampolines, but if it is not, buying a trampoline enclosure is an important add-on, especially when young kids will be using it. The enclosures provide an added measure of safety and protect jumpers from falling off, potentially landing on concrete or the hard ground and causing serious harm or injury.

Buying a 12ft trampoline is another option, and is considered a better choice for more mature users or those with more backyard space. The same guide as with the smaller 10ft trampoline can be followed in buying it – opt for those with more springs, larger springs, and a heavier material on the jumping surface, as well as a stronger steel frame. If the space in the backyard permits it, it is more advisable to buy the bigger size so that the kids can grow into it.

Trampolines that are 14 feet in diameter are the most popular for those who are serious about trampolining as a sport. They are also popular in the practice of aerial tumbling and twisting moves for other sports such as gymnastics, high diving, freestyle skiing, freestyle boarding or wake boarding. Unlike the smaller models, 14 ft trampolines can accommodate up to 4 bouncers at a time. But many homeowners that are just looking for a place for their kids to have fun in the backyard don’t opt for these larger models and instead buy 10ft trampolines, or even an 8ft trampoline instead.

The presence of a smaller 10ft trampoline with a bouncing kid on top has become a popular scene in many homes in America. These smaller trampolines are more economical for those just looking for a casual “toy” compared to a serious piece of exercise equipment and they also fit better in most backyards. But 10ft trampolines also pose more possible risks than larger models, such as the potential for kids falling off the trampoline, getting hurt by the trampoline’s frame, colliding with another bouncer, bad landings and more.

Because of these potential risks, it is imperative that proper safety precautions be observed and it is recommended that you purchase a 10ft trampoline and enclosure, either together as one kit, or as two separate purchases. You may need to buy the enclosure separately for some models, but if you do, just make sure you buy a 10ft trampoline enclosure so that it properly fits the size of the trampoline – otherwise it will not provide any safety benefits. Buying a 10ft trampoline with enclosure all together helps avoid these potential accidents because the trampoline already comes with the appropriate enclosure and tells you how to set it up as part of the initial installation process.

A trampoline enclosure is basically strong netting that is placed around the trampoline, with a frame to hold it in place. Most trampolines come already packaged with an enclosure, and some even come with padding to put around the frame or on the ground surrounding the trampoline. If you buy a 10ft trampoline that does not include these safety features, it is important to get them, and a kit can usually be bought in sporting goods stores or online from retailers that sell 10ft trampolines and accessories. Just make sure that whatever you buy is sized properly to fit the size of the trampoline you have.

Trampolines are a great addition to your backyard enjoyment and can be enjoyed by kids of all ages, as well as adults if the trampoline is big enough and can withstand the added weight. In order to best enjoy your new 10ft trampoline, however, it is important that you consider safety precautions such as installing a trampoline enclosure, as well as some trampoline mats on the ground around the edges of the trampoline. The trampoline should be positioned on a flat surface, away from anything that can potentially cause harm to jumpers, such as tree branches and electrical wires, or even the edges of a patio umbrella.

Caring for your trampoline entails cleaning it periodically and also checking for safety issues, such as making sure there are no rips or tears in the trampoline itself or the safety enclosure. There are coating sprays that can be used to protect the fabric from wear and tear. You also need to check the springs to make sure that they are not broken and are all attached properly. With proper care, a good quality trampoline can be enjoyed for a long time. Many of the higher quality suppliers even offer lifetime warranties. The good ones also provide information on how to find accessories, parts or replacements, should there be a need.

Buying a 10ft trampoline can result in lots of fun times for your family, as well as a great source of outdoor exercise. Just be sure that you keep safety as a priority when installing and using your new 10ft trampoline, so that your new addition is the source of only good times and safe fun.

There are few experiences that can compare to time spent enjoying a peaceful and relaxing evening in a wicker rocker or swing in the comfort of your own porch or in your backyard, especially after a hard day’s work. This perfect piece of furniture completes a tranquil atmosphere and helps to soothe away the aches of the day.

Rocking chairs are one of the most cherished pieces of furniture brought into a home because of their functionality, style and comfort. A rocker is a chair that traditionally has two curved pieces attached on the bottom that allows the occupant to rock back and forth. The wicker rocker is the earliest of its kind and has its own particular charm.

The first use of a wicker rocker was in England and was documented in 1725, where wicker rockers were originally installed in gardens. Wicker rockers originated from early creations in Windsor Castle in the early 1700s, and thus earned the moniker of Windsor rockers. These chairs were designed with a round hoop back, with spindles reminiscent of birdcages and a comb-shaped headrest and were made from natural fibers. In North America, the wicker rocker appeared in the early 18th century and reached the peak of its production in the mid-18th century. Wicker rockers became famous for their creative designs and craftsmanship. Although they were originally also made from natural fibers in North America, the introduction of resin rockers added increased functionality and durability to this old-world furniture style.

A wicker rocker has long been known as a prized possession of mothers who love to sit in one while they rock their babies to sleep. Beyond the nursery, it is an accent piece of great value, not only within the house but outdoors as well. Nowadays, an outdoor wicker rocker is a common component of many outdoor patio furniture sets, and many homeowners that sport a front porch on their home love to include outdoor wicker rockers as part of the charming exterior decor.

A wicker rocker is typically made from stiff or fibrous plants, which can be blended with resin or plastic. It is woven or threaded to create a strong base used for both outdoor and indoor furnishing purposes. It is lightweight and resilient, as well as being relatively inexpensive. There are basically two types of wicker rockers – natural and synthetic. Natural fiber wicker rockers are made from the vines of rattan. Synthetic wicker rockers are made from pliable tensile wire, fused with plastic and resin to make them stiff. This type is often referred to as a resin wicker rocker, is less expensive than its natural fiber counterpart, and is often the type chosen for outdoor use.

Synthetic wicker rockers made of resin are the best choice for the outdoors. Outdoor wicker rockers need to withstand tough weather conditions, and unlike natural wicker rockers, resin rockers don’t dry out in the sun or get beaten up by rain, wind or snow. To clean a resin wicker rocker, all you have to do is just hose it off, so maintenance is easy. If they’re really dirty, you can use a little soap as well and scrub the dirt off, but that’s all the maintenance they really need. These rockers are also built to last. Always keep in mind though that it is best to store them away when not in use for long periods of time, whether they are made of natural or synthetic materials, to keep them looking their best. If, however, you have your rocker on a porch with a porch awning or you have a patio cover over your patio, you can leave the rockers out year round with less likelihood of them being damaged because they are protected from the elements.

Outdoor resin wicker rockers come in many colors so it is easy to find one that blends well with the color scheme of your home’s design. Natural wicker rockers, on the other hand, can be painted any color you would like, but will require regular paint jobs and sealing to keep their appearance looking fresh and new.

Like many types of furniture, wicker rockers may also be custom-made to suit the interior or exterior design of the house, although you can usually find one you like that has already been manufactured. Custom models are usually made from natural materials and are hand woven according to your specifications. Custom wicker rocker prices may be relatively more affordable than other types of custom-made rockers, but anything custom-made will still typically carry a fairly hefty price tag. Just remember that a general rule still applies – the higher the quality and the more unique the design, the higher the price usually is.

A wicker rocker not only serves as a practical and functional piece of furniture inside or outside the house, but it also exudes a feeling of love, comfort and style to bring peace and relaxation into your home. It is one of those pieces of furniture that truly adds character and charm to your home, much in the same way as a stone fireplace adds warmth and coziness, which is why it is one of the most common types of furniture to be passed down from generation to generation. So, whether you opt for a natural fiber or synthetic wicker rocker, you are sure to have a piece of furniture that can be enjoyed not only for the comfort it offers, but for the charm that it adds to your home.

Installing a pool in your backyard is a luxury that many homeowners aspire to, whether you are installing an inground or above ground swimming pool. Not only does a pool give you the benefit of cooling down, relaxing and exercising right in your own backyard, but it also can add to the aesthetics of your home’s exterior design. Fiberglass is a great choice to consider when deciding on the type of pool you want installed in your home for a number of reasons. More affordable fiberglass swimming pool prices, durability and easy maintenance are just some of the many great advantages of pools constructed from fiberglass over other material options.

Fiberglass pools, once installed, are permanent and get stronger as time passes. Their walls are made of non-porous materials that resist algae build-up and the breeding of bacteria. There are numerous sizes, styles and shapes you can choose from. Fiberglass pools usually come in pre-formed shells and are fairly easily installed. You can also have the pool customized using different surfaces and shapes and can even have an outdoor spa included as part of the pool design. The surface of the fiberglass can be gel-coated or colored. These pools can be customized with a shallow end, a volleyball pool section or even an attached outdoor spa. Unlike concrete pools, fiberglass can flex up to 12 inches, so it is a better choice for places prone to earthquakes.

The most obvious of the advantages of fiberglass for inground pools over concrete pools is the cost. Fiberglass pool prices are generally more affordable, especially in the long run. Clean-pool-and-spa.com lists that the installation costs for concrete pools ranges from $20,000-$50,000, while fiberglass swimming pool prices range from $15,000 – $30,000. Sunpools.com estimates that your savings on maintenance costs for fiberglass pools for ten years can amount to $ 11,260.00. Fiberglass does not require acid washing and resurfacing, so you also get better savings due to lower maintenance and energy usage costs.

There are two types of fiberglass pools – inground and above ground models. In general, fiberglass inground pools have advantages over above ground pools. These are ease of installation, their smooth finish, durability and easier maintenance. An above ground pool is a better choice when it comes to convenience, price and limited space. But when it comes to durability and lifespan, inground pools get the vote. The prices for above ground swimming pools made of fiberglass are cheaper than fiberglass inground pool prices, however.

Fiberglass pool prices vary depending on their specifications. A basic installation, which generally includes the pool shell, filtration system, site excavation, setting of the pool, backfilling, filling the pool, filter installation and pool permit will generally cost between $20,000 to $45,000. These fiberglass swimming pools prices do not include concrete decking around the pool. A complete fiberglass pool package would include the installation of the pool, perimeter decking, electricity and even a pool fence. But not all pool companies offer complete fiberglass pool services. Be sure you know what the inclusions of any package you are considering are before signing a contract.

To further save money on fiberglass pool prices, you also have the option of installing your own pool. This is not really an easy task, so many people don’t usually choose this option to cut down on the fiberglass pool price. Instead if price is an issue, they may choose to build a smaller pool or not include certain “extras”. But, if you think you can handle this task, the best companies to buy pools from will provide phone support directly from the factory to answer any questions you may have during the installation process.

Installing a pool in your own backyard is a pretty big decision and a large investment, but understanding the differences between fiberglass pool prices and other pool material options such as concrete, as well as weighing the pros and cons of each choice will help you make a more informed decision so you wind up with the pool you want at a price you can live with.

Swimming is known as one of the best exercises that you can do for your health. Running and biking are good as well, but swimming works everything in your body unlike the others. For those people that enjoy doing exercise, having your own lap pool in the backyard might be a good option.

There are many healthful benefits that these types of pools offer. Lap pools are very convenient to have in your own home, because they make it easier for you to get some exercise in whenever you desire. They are also relatively small and easy to maintain. A lap pool can be built inside the house (if you have a suitable space) or outside (where most are located) and they come in both inground or above ground swimming pool models. And although you won’t find totally cheap lap pools, these types of pools are typically less expensive than larger, more traditional style pools, so they are still a more economical choice.

The reason why swimming is sometimes preferred over running or biking is because you get just as good of a workout without all of the pain and stress. If you swim laps, it is a great aerobic exercise that can burn a lot of calories and you get a really good cardiovascular workout. Also, swimming is low impact. That means that you do not stress out your joints like you would from running due to the impact of each step. While swimming, you will still build up your muscles, but your joints will not be hurting afterwards. In order to become stronger, a lot of people lift weights, but swimming can replace that as well because there is resistance in the water while you swim. There is no age limit on swimming, unlike running, because running takes a lot more out of you and is harder for elderly people to do. Swimming is such a good exercise option, and having a backyard lap pool is so convenient, that almost anyone can stay in excellent shape if they’re willing to make the investment in themselves.

There are a lot of options to choose from when it comes to choosing a lap pool. You can decide between an above ground lap pool or an inground lap pool for starters. Inground pools are more expensive than their above ground counterparts, but look better in most backyards. These pools also come in many different sizes, but all of them are usually smaller than a regular swimming pool. Typically, a lap pool is just a narrow, straight pool that is only meant for exercising, not playing or diving, so they do not require as much room.

You need to have a professional come out and size out where you want to install your lap pool, to determine the best size pool for your available space, as well as your needs. If you have the room for it, you can even have an indoor lap pool installed. These can get pretty expensive, but most people can’t choose this option because they simply don’t have indoor space that is suitable to accommodate an indoor pool of any size. But all in all, lap pool prices are not any more expensive than a multi-purpose swimming pool, and in most cases are substantially less due to the difference in size.

Even though lap pools cost a good amount of money, they can pay off for themselves because they are very convenient to use and they avoid you having to make other payments. You will no longer need to drive over to your pool club in order to swim, and won’t even need to lay out the expense of joining a pool club or a gym. Also, you will be the only one in the pool so you do not need to worry about running into anyone or worrying about what you look like while you are getting in some much-needed exercise – and you won’t have the excuse that you don’t feel like getting out of the house to get in a workout because your workout will be right there waiting for you.

Due to their shape and narrow size, lap pools are very easy to maintain and clean. Normal swimming pools cost a lot after you initially buy them in maintenance costs alone, but the main lap pool price is in the initial purchase and installation alone, and not in hefty ongoing maintenance costs.

Lap pool prices can range significantly, however, so you need to decide what your budget is before you go into a store to buy. These pools are becoming a lot more popular because of the many benefits that they provide, which means that more and more models and options are becoming available on the market. But with the added options can come added expense as well, so determine your priorities and stick to your budget. You will also need to consider other expenditures, such as a pool fence, if one is required in your township.

If you are looking to get some great exercise right in the convenience of your own home, you should absolutely consider looking into buying a lap pool. It is a purchase that will go a long way in helping you live a healthier life.

A beautiful backyard and garden takes time and great effort to cultivate and most of that effort is spent on weed control. Weeds are unwanted plants that grow in your garden. They are like pests, overcrowding other plants and taking away nutrients, water and light. The simplest method to kill these harmful plants is by pulling them out. But many people do not have the time or the patience it takes to do this effectively. Thus, the most effective way of removing weeds is by hiring a professional weed control service.

There are many companies that offer professional advice and services to help you maintain your lawn and garden, including weed control services and pest control services. Apart from gardens, they also may offer lawn weed control and maintenance for your grass.

There are many ways to stop weeds from overrunning your garden and many types of landscape supplies that you can buy to suppress the growth of weeds. One method is the use of chemical weed killers that are usually sprayed on the plants. But because of growing environmental and safety concerns, many are switching to organic weed control.

Below are typical methods used by a weed control service to manage weeds organically:

Manually pulling weeds

Regulating the delivery of water with the use of rubber hoses and other methods directly to plant roots to limit the weed’s access to water

Tilling and plowing around plants mechanically with the use of tractors at various periods in the cultivation process

Rotating crops with ones that kill weeds by choking them out, such as hemp (this works better on a farm than in your backyard, however)

Mulching or the use of weed mats, which are made of fibrous materials such as cloth bark or newspaper placed on top of the soil to prevent weeds from growing to the surface

One popular weed control service method used to destroy weeds organically is the use of herbicides. Through the use of various equipment on the ground, or even in the air, herbicides are applied directly on plants. Common organic herbicides include spices, vinegar, steam, flame, citrus oil and many others. Major herbicides used by professionals include 2,4-D, aminopyralid , atrazine, clopyralid , dicamba, Glufosinate ammonium, Fluroxypyr, Glyphosate, Imazapyr, Imazapic,Linuron , Metolachlor, Paraquat, Pendimethalin, Picloram, Sodium chlorate and Triclopyr.

Herbicides can be classified in many ways. Contact herbicides kill only the plant directly in contact with the chemical. These generally are the fastest acting herbicides but are less effective on perennial plants. Systemic herbicides are translocated through the plant, either from foliar application down to the roots, or from soil application up to the leaves. They are slow acting and can easily manage perennial plants. Soil-applied herbicides are absorbed by the roots of the plant and are applied directly to the soil. These are just some of the options that a weed control service will consider in helping you combat weeds in your lawn and garden.

Weeds are the worst enemy of garden and lawn owners. So to relieve yourself from the hassle of dealing with them, go to a professional weed control service company and let them get the job done right, so you can just sit back and enjoy your weed-free landscaping and your beautiful garden decor.

Wrought iron furniture is the best choice to add elegance and class to any outdoor setting, with its stylish curves and ornate designs. It is a perfect accent piece that complements any backyard and garden décor.

The existence of wrought iron furniture dates back to the Roman Empire. Its popularity in Great Britain was first documented with the installation of wrought iron gates in the Westminster Abbey in London in the Thirteenth Century. Its fame peaked during the reign of William and Mary in the Seventeenth Century with the widespread adaptation of imported artisans of Baroque style in gates and railings. However, in the 1970’s, its status declined with the emergence of cast iron and cheaper steel.

Wrought iron furniture is available in various styles to match any setting, for both interior and exterior settings. Furniture made from wrought iron is often handcrafted – made by heating iron and bending or hammering it into beautiful shapes and designs. It is an art form still prevalent to this time.

The most common furniture for outdoor use may be found on the patio or in the garden. Wrought iron garden furniture was particularly popular in the 19th century during the Victorian era. The garden’s theme may be reflected in the intricate vinework of the furniture. Traditional pieces that may be used to add to this romantic feel include items such as small benches or a set of two chairs and a table tucked into a tranquil corner.

Wrought iron patio furniture is best utilized for enjoying a leisurely gathering on your patio, porch or veranda. Dining sets are the most popular for these settings, the most current trend of which is bistro style tables with high chairs. For a more relaxed and easy atmosphere, a low table paired with a chaise lounge is a great choice. No matter what style you choose, you can find outdoor patio furniture and outdoor dining furniture options in wrought iron that will add beauty and style to your outdoor spaces.

Wrought iron patio or garden furniture is an excellent choice for outdoor home décor, especially because of its understated beauty and its durability – it can withstand tough weather and lots of wear and tear. Most wrought iron outdoor patio furniture is manufactured with a protective coating, usually paint or a clear sealant that can endure the high heat of the sun or the driving force of wind and rain. Quality wrought iron outdoor furniture is solid and heavy and can survive being outdoors for long periods of time. In fact, vintage wrought iron patio furniture is sought after to add a touch of shabby chic, or an antiquated or heirloom “feel” to a backyard design, and since it is so durable, it will still be in good shape long after it initially leaves the store.

Another appeal of wrought iron furniture, in addition to its style and durability, is its comfortable fit. Being handcrafted, it can be shaped to follow the natural contour of the body for a more easy and relaxing fit. For a cushier feel, wrought iron furniture cushions are readily available to match your needs and to make the furniture even more comfortable. Furniture and patio chair cushions also jazz up your décor for that instant design fix and splash of color.

The most typical type of wrought iron furniture available in markets includes dining sets composed of a table and chairs, which is best for entertaining. Another trendy addition to your outdoor furnishings is wrought iron lawn furniture, such as lawn chairs for a more casual and laid back atmosphere, perfect for backyards or a snooze by the pool. A wrought iron porch swing adds a romantic touch to any porch, or to add nostalgia to your patio or veranda, a vintage wrought iron rocking chair is another perfect addition and rivals the look of a wicker rocker. For a more leisurely get together, low chaise lounges with a center table are ideal. As you can see, you are not very limited since the furniture comes in many different styles.

Wrought iron furniture prices can vary considerably, depending on quality, style, size, and whether the furniture is new or restored. Despite its being of the purest form of iron, poor workmanship degrades its quality. To acquire high quality wrought iron furniture, check the furniture joints for strength and the finish for proper coverage, because by investing in quality pieces, you can enjoy your outdoor wrought iron furniture for a long, long time.

If you are looking for a way to add that extra something to your garden decor, think about choosing from among the variety of interesting garden clocks available on the market or add an attractive garden thermometer. These items serve a functional purpose, but can also be a great way to create a focal point in your garden with an object that is unexpected and artistic.

When it comes to choosing a garden clock, you have a number of different options. You can choose a garden wall clock, which is one of the most popular options and this type of clock can be placed amongst your garden hanging from a fence, the side of your house, a garden building, or just about any vertical surface. Garden wall clocks can be made from a variety of materials, including ceramic, metal, copper, wood, or just about any type of material that can withstand outdoor use.

One of the nice things about garden wall clocks is that they can be hung up in a similar fashion to how you would hang a piece of artwork inside. The outdoor garden clocks can blend right into the surroundings and have a very natural look, or you can opt for a style that is bold and eclectic to really draw your eye to the clock and add a bit of whimsy to your garden.

Another option, if you don’t have a wall to hang a clock from in the proximity of your garden, is to instead buy a hanging garden clock that hangs from a post. In most cases, the post and the garden clock come together as a set, along with a bracket to hang the clock from, but otherwise, if you already have a post, you can simply buy a decorative bracket or hook so that your outdoor garden clock can delicately hang from any available post. Hanging a clock or thermometer near your favorite garden bench can be visually appealing and can add to the quaintness of your outdoor decor.

If you have a space with a bit more room and want to opt for something more unique, there are tabletop garden clocks as well. Some come in the form of a sundial, so that you can tell the time like they did in ancient times, based on the positioning of the sun, while others are regular clocks that are set within the top of a table to provide an interesting alternative to a small outdoor table set within the garden.

As for garden thermometers, many of them come in the same styles and options as garden clocks do and they can also create an interesting focal point in your backyard and garden, while also serving as a good indication of what the temperature is like outdoors. Some come with added features, such as barometric pressure readings, as well. You can, of course, just buy a cheap garden thermometer (or cheap garden clock for that matter), that is not really decorative but just serves a functional purpose if that’s all you need.

If you are interested in getting both a clock and a thermometer in your backyard or garden and don’t want two different accessories hanging out there, you can find some models of garden clock thermometers that will both tell you what time it is and also tell you what the temperature is as well. Finding a garden clock thermometer in a style you like may be a bit more difficult, since there are not as many options available, but with a little searching, you should find something that will go well with your garden decorating style.

While some people love to head out in their gardens to forget about time for awhile as they putter away amongst their plants and flowers, others love to be able to keep tabs on the time or to simply have an attractive focal point to catch their eye – and for those that do, a garden clock is the perfect solution!

If you love to garden, then buying a potting bench is a “luxury” you shouldn’t avoid. Potting benches provide the space you need to enjoy your hobby and typically offer appropriate storage space as well as comfortable work space areas. So, if you are looking to buy a potting bench, what are some of your options?

You have many different options when it comes to garden potting benches. Here are some to consider:

Wood Potting Benches – When it comes to a wood potting bench, you can’t go wrong with cedar. A cedar potting bench looks good out in your backyard or garden, and cedar will hold up well to moisture, sun and just about anything you can throw at it. This is the most popular potting bench type, since wood blends in so well with the outside surroundings, while still being durable.

Plastic Potting Benches – If you want a super low maintenance potting bench, then plastic may be the way to go. While a plastic potting bench will not look as attractive or “natural” near your garden, it is easy to clean, durable and long lasting. This is also a cheap potting bench choice, if budget is a factor.

Metal Potting Benches – Metal is not the most popular of materials when it comes to potting benches, but you can still find some options available. Just make sure if you buy a metal potting bench that it is one that won’t easily rust, because it will be exposed to moisture and water quite a bit.

Folding Potting Benches – If you don’t have the space to leave a potting bench out all the time, or simply don’t want to, then a folding potting bench is a great option. These models fold up compactly for storage when not in use. Since a folding potting bench does not usually remain out all the time, it often does not have any room for storing your gardening supplies and is used mostly just as a potting table when you need to get some work done. With this option, you may want to consider hanging garden tool racks in your garage or shed to store your tools.

A garden potting bench will usually have a shelf below the main portion of the bench for storing supplies like potting soil, fertilizer, garden pots, and garden tools. The main part of the potting bench should be comfortable to work at from a standing position, so be sure to check that out before you purchase. Some potting bench designs will also include specialized garden tool storage along the top of the work space, and side containers or bins to either sweep debris or scraps into or to hold compost, soil or other materials. You can even find some potting benches that include an outdoor sink, so you can have access to running water to make it more convenient when working on your plants and flowers, or to wash off your hands after they’ve been digging through the dirt. Another option is a potting bench that also serves as a garden bench that you can just sit in and enjoy as you admire the surrounding flowers when you’re not hard at work.

If you love to garden, then a potting bench should be high on your list of garden accessories to buy. It provides a comfortable place to work on small gardening tasks and is the perfect way to keep all of your gardening supplies and tools organized and easily accessible. There are many potting bench styles to choose from, so depending on your needs, you should be able to find one with the features you are looking for and within your particular budget constraints. Happy gardening!

Perhaps you already have a treasured wooden rocking chair that was handed down to you from your grandparents, or maybe you just purchased a brand new rocking chair that you can’t wait to start spending time in. Either way, caring for your favorite outdoor rocking chair takes a little bit of maintenance and some knowledge to care for it.

To begin with, if you haven’t purchased your rocking chair yet, choose an appropriate material for your outdoor rocking chair such as teak, cedar, redwood or cherry. These types of materials will help your wooden rocking chair stand up to the elements for years and will reduce the amount of time you spend maintaining it.

If you’re like many people, it’s the time of year when you start digging out the outdoor patio furniture in preparation for the summer bbq’s, parties and gatherings. If you are one of those folks that need to get your wooden rocking chairs out of storage and get them fixed up so you can relax and enjoy on a summer Saturday afternoon enjoying your backyard and garden, read on for some useful tips on how to get that done.

Mold is your outdoor wooden rocking chair’s enemy and this is one of the first things you should look for prior to sprucing up your chair. If you live in an area with high humidity and moisture, check your chair carefully. To help prevent mold from forming in the first place, spray a solution of vinegar and water over the chair in areas where mold may form, and especially on the undersides of the chair. Let the chair dry completely in the sun before stowing it away.

Chances are that you will need to clean up your rocking chair and apply some sort of finish to revitalize it before using it again this season. Here are some tips for preparing and finishing your chair properly:

Use a coarse grade sand paper to smooth out rough spots or remove any peeling paint.

After sanding, clean furniture by either power washing it if it’s extremely dirty (but be careful if it’s a painted surface since this could peel off the paint), or brushing with a bit of soap and water (which will usually get the majority of dirt and grime off). Use a quality wood cleaner that you can find at your local hardware store, such as Murphy’s oil soap, if you don’t want to use soap and water.

Let furniture dry completely after washing.

Make sure furniture is clean and dry prior to applying any type of paint or stain. Oil based stains or paints work best for outdoor rocking chairs.

Finally, use a sealer so your chair will last much longer – look for one that provides water repellent properties.

Give your wooden chair a good inspection to find any areas that may have become loose such as spindles or joints that may require repair or just re-gluing. Wood putty can be used to fill in any damaged areas.

You should also keep your wood furniture out of the rain as much as possible, even though many of the woods used in outdoor chairs are very good at weathering the elements. Use outdoor furniture covers or store under a patio cover to prolong the life of your wooden rocking chair. Store the chairs inside during winter months if possible, or in a garage or shed, making sure your rocking chair is clean and dry prior to storage to avoid mold.

Remember the better you care for your outdoor furniture, including wicker rockers and wooden rocking chairs in particular, the more seasons and years of enjoyment you will spend rocking and relaxing in comfort. Maybe you will even decide to pass your rocking chair down to the next generation since the loving care you’ve given it over the years will make it a wonderful family heirloom.

Kimberly Aardal writes reviews about white porch rockers and outdoor rocking chairs, in addition to many other types of chairs. She is the publisher of EveryDayRockingChairs.com and when she’s not rocking in her favorite black rocking chair, she is hiking and exploring the mountains of Colorado.

These days, bar stools can be seen not only in home bars, but also in kitchens, dining rooms, and even patios. The addition of bar stools on the patio, or even near a pool or garden area, adds to the casual atmosphere of your outdoor space and makes the space look more inviting, since there is lots of extra seating available. And a tall bar stool is the perfect type of seating for outdoor areas, making it easy to just sit for a quick drink or congregate around an outdoor bar or bar-height pub-style table for a relaxed barbecued meal.

Even though there are many different varieties of bar stools on the market, it is sometimes still a challenge to purchase the most durable and attractive ones that will blend in best with your backyard and garden decor while still fitting into your budget. Here we discuss a few different bar stool options to consider for outdoor use.

Patio bar stools may or may not have backrests and armrests, but they usually come with footrests for easier access to sitting and to provide a comfortable place to put your bare feet. The exact style will depend on your personal tastes and preferences.

In choosing which type of patio bar stool to buy, one consideration is the material used for constructing the stool. Patio bar stools, being used outdoors, can be made from wood, metal or plastic. Each has its advantages and disadvantages, and taking durability into consdieration will narrow down your options. For you to decide on which material to choose, consider first the kind of weather you have in your location. Do you experience a lot of rain, long cold winters, direct harsh sunlight or other weather that might affect your stools? Prolonged exposure to rain, snow or sunlight will surely degrade the quality of all three of these materials, but some more than others.

Metal bar stools tends to be more weather-resistant, even if exposed to various climates, as compared to wood and plastic stools. However, extensive exposure to the outside elements can lead to destruction of the material and deterioration in the long term.

A wooden bar stool can stand up well outdoors and should be made from a highly known quality of wood and not just any type of wood. They should be treated, however, with a sealer alone, or paint or stain and a sealer, to protect the wood. Wood bar stools are often more preferred outdoors because the material blends in better to the surrounding backyard and garden and is more natural. However, be prepared to pay a little more for wooden bar stools, since a high quality wooden stool will cost more than most metal and plastic ones.

Plastic bar stools are the most economical, but you usually get what you pay for. A plastic bar stool may not last as long as metal and wood bar stools do, but some will last longer than others and they serve their purpose well. You can get plastic stools in many colors and they are great to use when you like to entertain a lot.

Not only should you consider the material used for constructing the patio bar stool itself, but you should also consider the design and intended purpose of the stool. Another factor that you should consider is the location where you will use the stools. If you intend to use the bar stools you buy in both an outdoor and indoor location, you may want to get some folding bar stools, since they are portable, which makes it an ideal choice for moving the stools around wherever you may need them. Folding bar stools are also a good idea for outdoor use if you live in an area that is prone to extreme weather. You can easily fold up the stools and take them indoors or store them in the garage or a storage shed when the bad weather approaches, or if it is too windy or stormy. This can extend the bar stools life span and usability.

Whatever design or material you chose, outdoor bar stools must be durable enough to withstand frequent use and exposure to the weather and should also complement well with your backyard and garden decor, as well as with any existing outdoor furniture. They can be a great replacement to more traditional outdoor dining furniture or can be an addition to the casual atmosphere you enjoy when relaxing or entertaining in your backyard.

With summer fast approaching, many of us turn to the outdoors, spending lots more time in our backyards and gardens. The main reason we spend time in the garden is to do the necessary work to beautify it, while also providing a relaxing and calming place to spend time with friends and family as we look out of the work we’ve accomplished. Then, once that work is done, we can simply enjoy our own little slice of paradise.

As much as we enjoy the time we spend out in the yard, we very often also find that we spend a lot of time trying to find places to put all of the stuff that we use outdoors. Whether it is all of the garden tools that we need to keep the lawn looking its best or the many outdoor toys that we buy so our kids can be entertained outside, we are sometimes lacking a place to put everything so it is not crowding up and messing up the beauty of our outdoor space. Not to mention storage of items like fertilizer or other hazardous materials that can be dangerous to young children or pets and really need to be kept out of sight and out of reach as well.

One option that adds beauty to the yard while also having practical functionality to provide the storage we need is a garden building. You have many choices to consider when it comes to garden buildings and they can fit the bill for everything from a small space to store extra tools and equipment to a spacious children’s playhouse or even a garden office.

For example, there’s premade garden buildings with wood finishes that can be as large as a standard bedroom and can serve as a guest house or office, or simply a large storage space. Other garden buildings are small, and are made from plastic or metal, and might barely hold the lawn mower and a few tools.

Size and material isn’t the only consideration you have when it comes to garden buildings. Your yard size, climate, and intended use can play into your decision in choosing the style that’s best for you. But the great thing is you have plenty of options when choosing one. If you don’t want to buy a new garden building, you can usually even find some good quality used garden buildings for sale by searching online with sites like Craigslist or eBay, and can save quite a bit of money in the process.

Garden buildings are not just about storing tools and other outdoor materials. They can even be gazebos or buildings specifically made for children to play in and store their toys. They can be offices, pool cabanas or guest houses. Really any building that you have outside can be considered a garden building, but ideally a garden building is something that helps to improve the aesthetic appeal of the yard while also adding functionality (which is why they are very often made from wood). In fact, many garden buildings will have accessories added, such as exterior shutters, window boxes, porches and more, to add to their aesthetic appeal, even if they are only being used as storage sheds.

When installing garden buildings, it is best to first measure your yard space and to seek an area that is relatively flat for its placement. Whether you build your own garden building or buy a pre-made option, you will then need to build a foundation before placing the building on the ground. This will help support the structure and will add to the life of the building. You should also check with your local municipality to see if there are any restrictions you have on installing garden buildings where you live.

Garden buildings can provide the perfect combination of beauty and functionality and are a great addition to most any type of backyard or garden.

The great thing about barbeque is that no two people do it the same. Have you ever noticed that when you go to someone else’s place for BBQ, it will always taste different from yours? They may cook different cuts of meat, or use different flavorings or have different BBQ techniques, or even simply just have a different type of BBQ grill. Whatever the case may be, everyone has a different way of grilling food and the results can be unique and interesting.

No matter how you choose to BBQ, there are some basic rules to follow that will help you generate great results. As long as you pay attention to the basics, you will be free to express yourself in other areas that can make your BBQ different than anyone else’s.

Whether you use a gas grill or a charcoal BBQ, it’s important to treat your equipment well. So that means giving it a proper cleaning before you do your cooking. As you have probably seen, the grease and oil build-up on barbeques can be quite intense, especially on charcoal grills. So, you want to make sure that built up oil and grease doesn’t get onto your current meal and change the flavor of your food.

Heat is the most important element to cooking, so when it comes to barbeque you don’t want things to get out of control. So always keep a water bottle right beside your grill in case the oil from your food causes flare ups, especially if you’re using a charcoal grill. And if you’re using coals, also make sure they heat up properly before you start cooking. A lot of rookies choose to grill the food from the point they light the coals, but that can result in some heavily burnt food, when the coals are flaming but are not evenly heating the food above.

Another point to keep in mind, above all else, is that you should let the grill do the work. So that means keeping the poking and flipping of the meat to a minimum. This keeps juices in and results in better cooked and better tasting food.

Good BBQ is all about slow cooking the right foods, while quick grilling is best for smaller cuts of meat. When you get the right balance, you get great tasting food that is unique to your specific type of barbeque grill and grilling preference. And by following a few basic tips, you can better ensure that you will get the most from your outdoor BBQs.

More and more of us these days want to take a more organic approach to gardening. It may be an altruistic vision of wanting to help the planet, or merely a way to keep our pets and family a little safer at home. Either way, dealing with pests can be quite problematic and being able to handle them with a natural and organic approach is attractive to many people, no matter what the driving force is behind their decision. One particularly useful natural insecticide to consider using in your gardening efforts is neem oil insecticide.

Neem oil is a completely natural bi-product of the Indian neem tree. The tree is grown widely around the world to provide this useful insecticidal oil. Rather than destroying pests immediately but wearing off quickly, neem oil provides a longer-term method of garden pest control.

How does neem oil insecticide work to prevent pests from eating your plants?

By preventing any insect that has digested neem oil from molting, pests die as immature juveniles and are unable to breed. This reduces the number of future insect generations.

Since only those insects that eat your plants and so consume neem oil are affected, it helps protect the beneficial bugs in your garden.

Using neem oil is an extremely easy, cheap and effective form of garden pest control, but it won’t immediately destroy all insects. You do need to be a little bit patient and wait for those bugs to digest the oil themselves. Of course, if you sprayed the oil directly onto insects it would kill them, but it would kill beneficial insects in this way, too. So it is best to spray either early or late in the day when insects are least active. Also, doing this prevents you from scorching the leaves of your prized plants when the sun hits that liquid and heats it up.

The most economical way to use neem oil as an insecticide is buy purchasing pure neem oil in a gallon or quart bottle. Then dilute it, using four teaspoons of oil to every gallon of water. Add in a spoonful of liquid soap or mild dish-washing detergent and it will work even better. Then, once you have made your neem oil insecticide solution, you can simply spray it on your plants and wait for those pesky little pests to ingest it and die.

Porch awnings are becoming more and more popular nowadays as many people recognize the value of having such structures. Aside from extending the functionality of homes, they give just the right touch of class without being overly snobbish. Having these awnings in place portrays the feeling that people are indeed welcome to your home, and a covered porch also offers quite a bit of additional usable space outside your home.

For one, porch awnings serve as a backup to your perfectly-made plans that can easily be ruined by just a bit of bad weather. Just imagine planning for an afternoon of tea with your book club friends or a romantic dinner under the stars or an afternoon of birthday party fame, only to have rain ruin the festivities. But, if you have a porch awning in place, you can plan for any occasion without having to think of a plan B.

Since porch awnings are externally attached, they can be removed when you want and reattached again (some are easier to remove and install than others, so if this is something you want to do, consider the type of porch awning to buy). You can do this somewhat with ease because the awnings are made of materials which are easy to handle. If you opt for roll up porch awnings, then you can simply roll up the awning when not needed and there is no need to remove it when not needed.

Another nice feature is that fabric porch awnings also offer the leniency of design modification whenever you feel like it. If you want to renovate your home, you can always make your porch awning fit your new style by simply getting a replacement awning canopy in the color and style of your liking. Whenever you feel like redoing your painting, you can get an awning with a complimentary color or a contrasting color to really set the awning off and make a more decorative statement. Whatever modification you might think of doing to the exterior of your home, you can make these structures fit your new style.

Some people use their creative side and experiment with porch awnings and the covered space they create below. With the right furniture and accessories, a porch can become a dining area or even an office, where interaction can be dynamic and lively. If you have a more permanent porch awning, like one made of wood, an outdoor chandelier or some shades can add an interior decor look to the space. You can turn the space below a covered porch awning into almost anything you want – a playroom, an outside family room, or just about anything you want.

Adding an awning can bring so much to your home and can allow you to maximize the use of your porch space. The best part of all is that having this extra space will cost you so little yet give you so much to work with. So by choosing porch awnings for home use, you can provide more than simply a covering for a particular space. Adding a porch awning can bring a whole new dimension to the word multi-function, and can add a whole new style to the exterior of your home.
