Types of Outdoor Furniture

Contributed By: BAG Editors

If you are in the market to re-decorate your yard or garden, it is time that you take a long good look at the many varieties of outdoor furniture available, especially types like durable outdoor wicker furniture.  There are a lot of different outdoor furniture types for you to choose from that can give your yard and garden a brand new look.  You just need to decide which material and style will work best with your decorating tastes, the amount of care and maintenance you’re willing to put into keeping it looking good, and your budget.

Here are a few different types of outdoor furniture for you to consider:

outdoor furnitureFirst, there is outdoor wicker furniture.  This type of furniture now come in modern and classy designs, so you don’t have to worry about it being too tacky.  Besides, this is not your run-of-the-mill wicker furniture.  Instead, you can now get outdoor wicker furniture made from resin, which means the furniture can withstand heat, cold and even rain.  It will not fall apart after a few months of being left outdoors and requires virtually no maintenance.

Then, there is the more expensive teak furniture.  Although teak is also quite durable, it can’t withstand too much of the outdoor elements without eventually being damaged by the wind, rain and sunshine, unless you take good care to continually treat the wood.  Still, if you simply love wood furniture, then this is the type of furniture you should definitely check out. It’s look is unmatched and looks great in the natural setting of a backyard space.  You will, however, need to take good care of it and make sure it does not rot from too much exposure to the elements.

Finally, we have natural wicker and rattan furniture.  These are also quite classy, but the least durable of all three.  That’s because natural wicker is like plants – it dries out if left in too arid conditions for too long and it will warp and fall apart if left in moist conditions for too long.  This type of furniture is often protected by a layer of finishing or sealants but still, the finishing is pretty thin.  You will need to also get some outdoor furniture covers to protect the furniture when not in use if you are intent on getting this type of furniture for your yard.

Whatever type of outdoor furniture you choose, whether it is all-weather outdoor wicker furniture, teak furniture or natural wicker or rattan, always remember to go for the furniture that you really like.  After all, you are the one who will be sitting on the furniture on a regular basis and will be using it for a very long time, so what you buy now should be something you’ll be happy with for a number of years to come.
